I was told many years ago that I am too "Honest" to sell Real Estate.

Several years ago some of my Burmese relatives mentioned to me more than once that I was to "Honest" with my clients. They said that I would sell more homes if I wasn't so "Honest".

If fact Nu Nu and one of her brothers mentioned to me that I shouldn't even sell Real Estate, because I tell my clients the truth all the time.

When they tell me this I let them know that I have always been a "Honest" person and why would I change because I sell Real Estate. It's very hard to teach a Old Dog new tricks and VB will continue to be "Honest" because he believes "what comes around goes around"

Do onto others and you would have them do onto you!

Not only that, but lying in the Real Estate industry can be a real liability and I would hate to be sued for being dishonest.

I don't think there is any claim on the law books arising from being dishonest.  People are sued for the damages (monetary amounts) that their dishonesty has caused, however.  I think honesty is a virture.

There is a stigma with salespeople across industries that they are cut throat and dishonest. When some consumers encounter an honest person they wonder how they can be in the business? It happens all the time and is a sad testimony for the good ones to be lumped in with the bad ones.

True. Deceiving people just to get a sale is not worth it. Thank you Robert for this wonderful post!

What a terrible thing to be told! I go out of my way to explain to people how and why I'm totally honest with my clients. They get it and they appreciate it.

What sets me apart, will set you apart.

That's why I don't like those "how to overcome objections" appeals. Sound too much like armtwisting and from there to truth fudging it's not very far.

Bob, I was also told the same thing. Unfortunately, it was from a seller who didn't want me to disclose an issue. I immediately advised him I was required to disclose. So he could do it or I would.

Some of the most successful people that I know are honest "to a fault".  I think that people who always tell the truth are less stressed.  One great facet of always telling the truth is that we never have to remember what we said.
