Spammy Emails, Don't Be Enticed to Click

Many spammy type emails are blocked by our settings and filters but every now and them one gets through because it looks legitimate. So at first glance you think it may be something important and you read it and start considering the validity of it.

This one passed my filters and looked important. Since I am an Apple user with an iPhone, iPad and MacBook, it caught my attention. I would be in a world of hurt if my devices were denied access and I couldn't use the Cloud or my iTunes account. Here is the email I received.

So what makes this email suspect? First it is the return email address. I am pretty sure that Apple does not receive email at camry.websitewelcome.com.

Next, the language used has upper case letters in inappropriate places in the sentences and they are overused.

Third, the sentences don't make sense and use poor grammar such as 'Before your log in your Account will be Confirmed, let us know right away.' What in the heck does that mean?

Next, if they tell you they are trying to prevent fraudsters, then they are likely the fraudsters.

Reputable company's emails will generally have a customer service phone number and if not we can find one for a big company like Apple online. Try logging into your account and if all is well, no worries. Calling the company directly will help confirm if the email is authentic.

And finally if it is valid and you do not respond, they will send more email reminders. Check them out in the same way.

Spammy Emails, Don't Be Enticed to Click. And for heaven's sakes don't click on the link until you have thoroughly investigated. The best suggestion is to just DELETE it.

Roy, this is an excellent reminder to keep guard against suspicious-looking and spammy-appearance emails. There are times where I go through heavier periods of clicking on the Unsubscribe button or sending to the SPAM folder. These are the times I question whether I am doing the correct thing. There have also been many times where I place a business call to a company to check out a suspicious email.
