First, a little bit about my city--Newton Massachusetts. Newton, with over 85,000 residents (2012 Census) is comprised of 13 villages and all with a different flavor. Being ony 7 miles from the city of Boston and with top rated schools in the country, Newton has a very efficient transportation system. THE VILLAGE OF WABAN:
Angier and Zervas Elementary Schools are located in the Village of Waban in Newton, MA. Waban, named for Chief Waban of the Nonantum Indians, is a village with a quaint town center. It includes restaurants such as the the very popular Waban Kitchen and Barry's Deli, banks and the Waban "T" stop with parking for commuters into "town" (that's what we say referring to Boston). Waban Square (as the center of the village is referred to) includes a Starbucks, shoe repairs shops, cleaners, the 02468 Post Office, and The Waban Market with a great selection of food, wine and spirits. Waban has a local social club, The Windsor Club (sounds fancy but it is not) with a swimming pool (get on the multi-year waiting list quickly) and clay tennis courts are open to all Waban residents. The Waban Library also sits in the center of the village. By the way, Waban is the only village retail center that does not have parking meters. The Waban Improvement Society is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization which promotes any activity intended to improve Waban and fosters a sense of community. Don't miss the Waban progressive dinner. This is a great way of meeting new friends.
The Waban Area Council is a newly elected body under the city Charter which addresses local issues that affect the quality of life in Waban and foster communication in the community.
Waban Moms (you do not have to be a mom to join) is a group of women who meet once a month at a home to unwind and socialize. It is a good local networking group for all women.

The mission of the Newton schools is to educate, inspire and prepare students to achieve their full potential as lifelong thinkers, learners and productive contributors to society.

COMMUTING FROM WABAN:
If you drive, then you have many road choices to get to Boston. If you work, go to school or even shop South, West or North of the Newton you are in great shape because Newton is bordered by the Massachusetts Turnpike ("The Pike" as we say). Route 128/95 and Route 9. Beacon Street runs right through Waban and Commonwealth Avenue is the northern border (part of the Boston Marathon route) straight into Boston.
Public transportation is supplied by the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority). The "Green Line" (trolley) or the "T" heads right into the city of Boston.
