I think I'd have to say that the one thing that continues to amaze me about the way pedestrians walk out into traffic here is the fact that more often than not, they are within 100 feet of a crosswalk. Call it ignorance (I won't), arrogance (I might) or stupidity (I do), the end result is the same- another dead pedestrian and another family with a member that won't return home.
This is yet another death falling under the ever-so-unwatchful eyes of Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, and is likely the first of many pedestrian deaths to come under the watch of new Orlando Police Chief John Mina.
Pedestrian identified in fatal crash on John Young Parkway
A pedestrian was killed Monday night when a sports utility vehicle slammed into him on John Young Parkway, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Troopers identified the deceased man as 51-year-old Dale Ippolito, of Clarcona.
The driver of the SUV, Ashok Patel, 65, was not hurt.
Patel was driving southbound on John Young Parkway in the left lane when the pedestrian walked out in front of his vehicle, according to a crash report.
Ippolito was crossing John Young Parkway from east to west. Troopers said he wasn't walking in a crosswalk or at an intersection.
He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was soon pronounced dead.
