A Study in the Observance of Mother's Day and Other Special Days
I celebrate all important days. That is I spend quality time with my family on Christmas, New Year's, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Labor Day, both Thanksgivings (Canadian and American) and a few other days too.
Yesterday was Mother's Day, in addition to my family wishes I got up in the morning, I also received text messages from the electrician/plumber/hvac contractor I call wishing me a Happy Mother's Day. I also received similar messages from my home inspector and favorite lender (all men). I also received several wishes on Facebook from single female friends who have no children.
Then the real estate calls started coming in. All the calls and emails I received yesterday were from women and came throughout the day starting at 9:30am.
Mother's Day, next to Thanksgiving, used to be the day most travelled when people celebrated their mother's and spent quality time together with family. When did it become so trivialized? And, when did women stop respecting the day?
I am on a soap box this morning. Our country is in turmoil and our family values are in danger. We work so many hours and sacrifice time with our families, time for prayer and reflection is constantly under attack, and more and more the rights of the parents, teachers and our children are in upheavel and our children are confused as to what is right and wrong. We need to get back to basics, spend quality time with our families and respect these special days because our time here on earth is fleeting and the memories we create lasting for generations.
To all the Mother's out there, I hope you had a fabulous day filled with many memorable moments. I had a wonderful day with my boys but missed my daughter who wasn't able to be with us but she was here in spirit. I love you all!!
