What It Takes To Be A Successful Agent
Success has a different meaning for each individual but, if I had to define what makes an agent successful it’s a combination of perseverance, hard work, and the desire to make people happy. Real Estate is a people business and if you don’t feel reward from making your clients happy the other two really won’t matter.
Perseverance – You’re going to hear no way more than you hear yes when you’re first getting started in Real Estate. Never let it get to you, just keep going. Eventually all the leg work you put in will come back tenfold and people will be approaching you asking you to work for them not the other way around. Perseverance is important during each real estate transaction; all of them are going to present obstacles that need to be overcome. You’ve got to think outside the box and never give up to get past them.
Hard Work – Being a successful agent is going to take hard work…EVERYDAY. You have to wake up with a desire to go after what you want, a relentless burn to chase your dreams and build your business. Showing up in Real Estate doesn’t mean anything. You have to get out and earn it. Find what you enjoy and do it! Whether its mailings, door knocking, cold calling, and mixers – it doesn’t matter, find what works for YOU and work at it every day. Be prepared to sacrifice weekends, family events, and maybe even lose some friends in the process. This business takes digging in the trenches to be successful.
The Desire to Make People Happy – Real Estate is a relationship business. If you don’t get a successful feeling from making people happy it’s not your passion. No, we can’t please everyone but, a successful agent has very few unhappy clients out there. They turn strangers into clients for life by going the extra mile. Clients remember superior service and the way you treat them. There’s no better feeling than sitting down at closing with clients that think the world of you.
Being a successful agent means happiness. I am so thankful to love what I do and 99% of the time I don’t feel like I’m working. I’m living my dream of owning my own business and helping people with one of life’s biggest investments. No matter what your definition is for success it needs to be one that makes you happy.
