What It Takes To Be A Successful AgentSuccessful Agents
Success has a different meaning for each individual but, if I had to define what makes an agent successful it’s a combination of perseverance, hard work, and the desire to make people happy. Real Estate is a people business and if you don’t feel reward from making your clients happy the other two really won’t matter.

Perseverance – You’re going to hear no way more than you hear yes when you’re first getting started in Real Estate. Never let it get to you, just keep going. Eventually all the leg work you put in will come back tenfold and people will be approaching you asking you to work for them not the other way around. Perseverance is important during each real estate transaction; all of them are going to present obstacles that need to be overcome. You’ve got to think outside the box and never give up to get past them.

Hard Work – Being a successful agent is going to take hard work…EVERYDAY. You have to wake up with a desire to go after what you want, a relentless burn to chase your dreams and build your business. Showing up in Real Estate doesn’t mean anything. You have to get out and earn it. Find what you enjoy and do it! Whether its mailings, door knocking, cold calling, and mixers – it doesn’t matter, find what works for YOU and work at it every day. Be prepared to sacrifice weekends, family events, and maybe even lose some friends in the process. This business takes digging in the trenches to be successful.

The Desire to Make People Happy – Real Estate is a relationship business. If you don’t get a successful feeling from making people happy it’s not your passion. No, we can’t please everyone but, a successful agent has very few unhappy clients out there. They turn strangers into clients for life by going the extra mile. Clients remember superior service and the way you treat them. There’s no better feeling than sitting down at closing with clients that think the world of you.

Being a successful agent means happiness. I am so thankful to love what I do and 99% of the time I don’t feel like I’m working. I’m living my dream of owning my own business and helping people with one of life’s biggest investments. No matter what your definition is for success it needs to be one that makes you happy.

Thank you Elite Home Sales.

Joan, so true! I can remember my Grandfather telling me to find my passion when I was really little. Never saw myself in Real Estate but, it's right where I'm meant to be.

Thanks Randy!

Anita, I know you do all of them really well too. I admire the balance you find between work and personal.

Toni, very true...in our business and life that's not the way to go.

Hi Amanda,

Suggested! This is one of the most beautifully written posts I've ever read about being a successful Realtor. Your approach to describing what it takes to be successful is honest and genuine. This comes through in your writing, your successful closings, and how you relate to others, here on ActiveRain, and in your business. Furthermore, you've consistently proved you get the job done when you show us your listings and solds.

You truly ARE the best!

This is an excellent blog, Amanda. The money to be made was always my primary motivation to make those calls until my schedule was full.

Amanda, it is true, as many hours we spend with the public, you have to love what you do, or find another career choice!

Patricia, thank you so much. You always make me smile with your kind words. I truly appreciate it.

Thank you Roy!

Joan, I agree you really do. Life's too short to not being doing something you love.

I think, the most important is to enjoy what you are doing. If you have a bless( despite all stress of this work), you'll be successful.

Well said, Amanda. I always loved a comment Zig Ziglar used in his speeches. He said, "You can get anything in life that you want as long as you are willing to help others get what they want." We should be doing that everyday in this field.

Good morning Amanda. I can't believe this hasn't been featured but I have faith it will be and suggested it. You are so right: if you don't make your clients happy the other things don't matter. I'm glad Mike re-blogged this, so I could see it.

Great post Amanda. Happiness and success go hand-in-hand. It's no good to have financial success, if you aren't happy. I love what you said in your "hard work" paragraph. We all need to find our personal "sweet spot". That thing that we do that shows our passion.
