Teen Suicide vs 4H

Last week we got some horrible news.  A young man 17 years old took his own life.  He never really got to know what life was all about.  My nephew was the first on the scene with the young fellow's dad.  What a horrible thing to have to face as a parent.  What a horrible thing as a friend.  I realize that issues in life are overwhelming at that stage of life but if they could only see what the splash effect of what they've done is, perhaps they would think hard about what they are about to do.

We recently filmed a show on 4H, a program which gives young people the opportunity to explore many avenues of life, from animal care to business skills.  This program really gives children the edge in life to succeed.  I truly believe that if we take the time to teach our children about God and prepare them for life with opportunities to succeed that they will not be faced with the pressure to destroy what God created to be good.  Life is precious, loss of a life in any stage is heartrendering.  Treat it with love, care and diligence.

Sara, That is so sad, what a waste.  I was in 4-H for 10 years way back when and it is a wonderful program.  I'm not telling how long ago.  I showed sheep.  My daughter was in horse 4-H here for a while but we did quite a bit of moving in those years so she didn't really connect.  The horse was a another great way to keep her involved though.

Sara,

Continue promoting 4-H as a youth program. I joined when I was 10 years old. 4-H contributed to developing me as a leader, speaker. It gave me the confidence in myself and the desire to help others. I showed Dairy cows and went to state fair every year. 4-H looks to develop young leaders using their HEART, HANDS, HEAD and HEALTH. 4-H Is not just for farm kids, keep involved!

The Lord stopped me from committing suicide when I was 14 years old...and after 4 more years, I found out who Jesus was....and became a Christian...

May God bless those efforts to steer kids into meaningful lives....

This subject has been my personal crusade in our community for months.  Here's a link to one story.  Delete it if you don't want it here.  We've lost 8 kids under 20 years old in 18 months.

Sara,

I agree....he never knew what his life was about or could be....my prayers go out to all he knew and touched.
