The Property Tax Man Cometh - April 10th, 2008.......so here is your Bay Area Property Tax Information

Here's my little reminder that I have used for years.  When it comes to property  taxes,  "There's No Darn Foolin' Around!"

                        November 10thDecember 10thFebruary 10thApril 10th

                              Due                     Delinquent                  Due                  Delinquent

April 10th is just around the corner, so make sure you postmark your mailing on or before the delinquency date to  avoid costly late fees.  Only U.S. Postal cancellation is acceptable evidence in most counties in California.

Property Taxes-at-a-Glance:

Alameda County:    http://www.acgov.org/propertytax.htm

Contra Costa County:   https://taxcolp.co.contra-costa.ca.us/taxpaymentrev2/summary/account_lookup.jsp?k

San Francisco County:   http://www.sfgov.org/

San Joaquin County:     http://www.sjgov.org/Treasurer/OnlinePay.htm

San Mateo County:   http://www.sanmateocountytaxcollector.org/index.html

Santa Clara County:   http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/tax/

Solano County:      http://www.solanocounty.com/resources/scips/tax/situssearch.asp?navid=531

For a fee, you can now pay property tax bills online.  However, in most counties these fees are a bit high and I recommend paying by mail.  If you get to the last day, you may not have a choice but to pay online.  So, panic early! If you have a PDA or Planner, make an appointment or reminder for yourself and then annualize it.  The two things we can count on, "Death and Taxes."

Pam, that is a cute way to remember. I am in the process of disputing mine and it is looking very positive. Mine are paid by my lender on this house.

Hi Pam,

Great reminder!  Also, you should look into the value of your property to see if you qualify for a reduced property assessment to reduce your property tax expenses.

I thought tax day was April 15th?  That's the day I'm planning for; so if it is different I need to know.

Well here in California we have our property taxes that become delinquent/last date to pay on April 10th.  Oh, yes then there is our Federal and State taxes that are due on April 15th.

Thanks, Pam, for the information.  My husband actually does all this, but a good thing to remind my clients!

Pam, how funny I missed that little part of the property taxes.  Our property taxes are late after Jan. 31st so I was only thinking of big UNCLE SAM.  So that is like a double whammy.
