St. George UT News – Hope Lodge Groundbreaking Ceremony
There’s great news for St. George UT. The American Cancer Society just had their groundbreaking ceremony for the Hope Lodge. The first phase of construction can go proceed. The lodge, a first of its kind and will serve the Intermountain West. The organization was able to raise $17 million of their $18 million goal. And, they have already started recognizing donors and other organizations that have made it all possible.
Cancer patients can call the Hope Lodge their home away from home during their treatment. People will now come from across the state and region to receive top medical care and cancer treatment that anyone nearby has to offer. The new Hope Lodge will provide a supportive and comfortable environment for patients and caregivers to stay for free. It’s a service that you can’t find anywhere else in the region.
In 2011, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a piece of land for the Hope Lodge and they have been raising money ever since. The facility will now be in Southern Utah in St. George where people can come from anywhere across the nation to stay. Battling cancer can be hard enough for patients and caregivers without them having to worry about where to stay and other things they will need. Now, once the Hope Lodge is complete, no one will have to forego cancer treatment because of travel and lodging expenses.
Starting the project has been three long years in the making. With the help and support of so many, dreams are coming true. There is still one million more needed to complete the funding of the project but many have been a huge help so far.
Top donors to the Hope Lodge include:
- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
- State of Utah
- George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation
- Sorenson Legacy Foundation
- OC Tanner
