FREE ADMISSION and FREE ACTIVITIES

Fun and free activities at the Barnegat Bay Festival:

  • Enjoy a canoe eco-tour (pre-registration required) or a pontoon boat ride on the Toms River. Take a kayak ride or learn to paddleboard with Barnegat Bay Paddlesports (special festival pricing) at the Summit Avenue beach, or learn to fish and crab.
  • Relax to the traditional music of the Greater Pinelands Dulcimer Society, the Acoustic Musicians Guild, or a special children’s performance by YOSI and Johnny.
  • Touch sea life in the Jenkinson’s Aquarium touch tank, learn about winged wonders or raptors and reptiles with the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, make your own paper with seeds to plant with WILD Jersey, or walk through the soil tunnel for an “underground” experience.
  • Visit the more than 40 eco-friendly vendors and enjoy all varieties of great festival food.

Environmental groups, as well as state and local agencies, provide excellent exhibits and activities that focus on the environmentally responsible ways we all can enjoy and protect the Barnegat Bay and its watershed.  The entire family can participate in a myriad of environmental crafts such as fish printing and sea life origami.  Festival-goers also enjoy decoy carving, interactive touch tanks, seining demonstrations, and other displays exploring life along the Bay, past and present.  For a chance to get up close and personal with the Bay, attendees can take advantage of eco-tours such as kayaking through area creeks or traveling cross-bay with Ocean County naturalists aboard the educational pontoon boat.  Artisans and crafters sell marine art, jewelry, garden statuary, pottery, and custom-made skiffs; live music is provided throughout the day and festival food is available.

We should have more events like this one. Educating adults and kids about our environment is extremely important. I believe, our school should have a mandatory subject for kids about our footprint and saving this planet.
