You did such a great job I don't want to sell my home anymore...

 

A long time client of mine is pleased with the results of all the hard work my team has done to get his home ready for sale.  We reminisced about when they first looked at the home years ago. Both he and his wife fell in love with the home, location and especially the pool.  They 'knew' this was their home and it has been just that for the last 12 years or so. He teased my yesterday that it looks so good he's not sure he wants to sell anymore. Ha! Ha!  I knew he was kidding as they've already moved on to another home and quite happy. But I played along and said - OK we'll just stop the process and let everyone know.  NOOOOO I was just kidding, he says.  Well I knew that hahaha!

 

Today he sent me this cartoon.  It must have been his inspiration!

Like Joanna and others mentioned, I've had sellers fall back in love with their home after making changes to stage it. Never had anyone actually back out of selling though!

When I have a client who calls and says they want to move to a different neighborhood I have a mental checklist I go over with that client to make sure they have done a thorough job of reflecting on why they are selling.  And yes...it has cost me a couple of sales over the years but has probably rewarded me many more times over.

That is so funny, Anna. I too just had a similar experience. The sellers had always arranged their furniture in the home in a manner that blocked the visual flow of the room. They changed it per my recommendations and keep telling me, "We come downstairs and into that room each day and can't believe the difference. Why didn't we do this years ago? " Lol. ( They never asked me before)

I doubt I would want to keep my home even if staged. I love the location, but not the house. Wife sez bulldoze and rebuild!

That did happen to me once but it wasn't anything to do with our preparation or recommendations to market their home. The homeowners simply changed their mind and still own the property.

It's funny how oftentimes when a homeowner gets ready to sell their home, they will fix things they had not fixed in years, upgrade things, and add fresh paint throughout. Of course they want the home to look it's best for any potential new buyer, but what about wanting the home to look it's best while you are living in it? I guess that's just the way things go.

One of the benefits that we provide to our sellers is free staging since we own our own staging company. You know that we have all had the experience of a client saying, “You have made my house look so beautiful that I now wish to stay.”…said tongue-in-cheek. As long as they are kidding – at least semi-seriously – we laugh along. I fear the day when one to them is serious.
