My fruit garden

Hi everyone-While my flower garden is much bigger than my fruit garden. It has begun to bear fruit. Last year I planted three cherry bushes and a peach and a pear tree and 6 strawberry plants plus I have 3 raspberry plants that I planted I think 2 or three years ago which produce lots of raspberries last year and since I returned from my trip I have had 2 delightful treats and one puzzling and disappointing happening.

Cherry bush-This had blossoms on it for the first time. This was planted last year

6 Original Strawberry plants-Since I have been back home I have had at least a dozen FRESH strawberries. YUMMY!!!

Strawberry plants

I have about three or four strawberries that sprouted outside of the boxes

Then the bright red color of the amazing fresh strawberries hidden among the foliage and weeds from last yr

My 3 original raspberries took over their bed last yr and also hopped the box to produce more. This is the biggest stray jumper but have a few other smaller ones

I planted a pear and a peach tree last yr. Both blossomed and were doing well but when I returned many of the leaves and branches on the pear tree are dead so I am not for certain what happened. Hopefully it will survive and I just will trim the dead branches

The peach tree on the other hand put a huge smile on my face because I discovered it is loaded with little green peaches.

I also have a clementine tree but discovered after I ordered it that it isn't hardy in zone 7 so I am leaving it in the pot and bringing it inside for the winter. It did blossom earlier in the year but no clementines yet but I did have one on it last year and it turned orange and it was sweet and juicy.

No vegetable garden this year because of my two trips plus another get away when childhood friend visits in July.

Sweet rewards for all my hard work.

Sharon,

How wonderful to take a bite of your own strawberries.  We grew Alpine strawberries which should do well in your area.  The French call them "fraises des bois", strawberries of the woods, they easily spread, and do well near trees.  In LA we used to go down to our second level garden where they thrived, and have dessert picking and eating...all our good intentions to bring them up to the house, never got realized...LOL  A

Alexandra-this is the first time I have had fresh strawberries right out of a garden. The flavor is so amazing and they are so sweet. It is hard to keep up with them already but the raspberries were even harder because there were so many of them. Thank you for the french meaning

Raspberries are a favorite of mine and I was wondering who was tending to and watering your fruit patch while you were gone. Clementines are so tasty.

Gary-Mine too. Once established they don't need regular watering. I love clementines

Thin the peaches out to get a bigger fruit...I am sure you know that, but....

I miss the cherry tree that was at my parents when I was a kid.

Nothing is better than fresh fruit from your own garden and fresh vegies.  Nicely done.

Than-Thank you. actually I didn't know that. This is my first peach tree but you have to thin veggies so it makes sense you would have to do that with fruit too

Wendy-Thank you and you are so right. Nothing beats fresh

Whitney-Thank you and I am and will as they ripen

I planted a dozen strawberry plants this year.  For awhile I was seeing green berries, but they kept disappearing before they'd ripen completely.  THEN, I discovered a mother opossum with 8 babies living between my fence and the tool shed.

How is your pear tree doing? I'm concerned.

Since I missed commenting on you yesterday...I'm doing two today.

Have a great night.

Hi Debbie Laity -Sadly my pear tree died. I have no idea what happened to it. It was doing so well before my trip to Canada and Oregon.  Also my clementine tree did not make it either.
