A Sales Person Needs To Be Consistant

In thinking about what to write for Melissa Zavalals ActiveRain challenge "May Contest" What's It Take to Be a Successful Agent These Days?" I thought about several things which a Successful Loan Originator needs to do these days.  After all I have written blogs in the past which I covered what a Loan Originator needs to do to succeed, so answering Melissa's challenge this month shouldn't be very difficult.  However, the more I looked at what I have written in the past about what a Loan Originator needs to do to succeed, everything I had written before seemed to fall under one underlining principle, A Sales Person Needs To Be Consistent.

For example a Sales Person needs to:

  • Be motivated
  • Return phone calls promptly
  • Network
  • Prospect
  • Stay in touch with past clients
  • Eliminate inefficiencies
  • Market themselves
  • Have product knowledge
  • Stand apart from others
  • Be visible
  • Be persistent
  • Have a Plan
  • Be organized
  • Know your competitors
  • Listen
  • Be truthful
  • Be trustworthy
  • Do what you say

I could go on and on, because these are just a few of the points I have made in the several blogs I have written about success in the past.  But if you look at all of them, they have one thing in common, in order for each and everyone of them to be effective they need to be done consistently.  Without consistency the objective will not be achieve.

However, do not mistake consistency with not being able to change.  My definition of consistency relates to the principle not the method, the two in my opinion are very different.  There is more than one way to do most of the points I listed above, and the way you go about doing them can change from time to time as long as you constantly follow through on each one.

So the bottom line for me is A Sales Person Needs To Be Consistent without consistency success will not be achieved.

Had a buyer point out that many agents thrown the images in the gallery all 52 card pick up. Out of order, screwed up and confusing. Think buyer, be consistent so they know what to expect. Video really pulls them through and you see the room by room... how the property puzzle pieces fit, flow.

George, this is one of the most important things an LO can focus on.  Consistency in good practices will take us all very far.  The problem is remaining consistent while growing and taking on new challenges -without consistency, we have no way of knowing what's working, and what's not.

George, it will always be the path to success. Long before this site was developed, people would recognize a true salesperson as a Rainmaker. Without someone out there with regularity, business would fail.

I agree on all points.  I find the "be honest" is also at the top of my list of things they (or we) need to do.

Great list of attributes, George. And then I started feeling guilty about all the "rules" I seem to break regularly!

George - yes the two are very different. Consistency leads you toward your goal.  You can make changes along the way based on need.  Whereas resistance to change is simply "I don't know why but I've always done it this way."  Great distinction in the post.

Great post George, you do need to do everyone of those things to be successfull.  And if other agents are doing all of those, you need to do more.

Consistency is indeed important. Without it, we will never gain momentum. We will never gain the trust of others. Thus, we will never succeed.
