This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. One of the most emotional National Holidays our Nation celebrates. Formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. After several more wars it was renamed Memorial Day to honor all soldiers that died serving our country.
It looks like Mother Nature will be doing her part by giving us a gorgeous holiday weekend.
Did you say Brats? It’s the World’s Largest Brat Fest and since they’re like Mother’s milk to Wisconsinites it’s like Christmas to us. There will be tons of activities like volleyball, a mascot race, fun play inflatables, fireworks and yes a kids’ MUDstard Run. It’s not just all about kids; there will be 5 stages with live music of all types throughout the 4 days. Let’s not forget the Star of this event the Wisconsin Brat. So start the summer off right with a yummy juicy Brat.

If you’re a music fan check out the New Glarus Music Fest. It’s an all weekend event from Friday 5/23 to Sunday 5/25. With this variety if music there is something for everyone. Stop by the face painting tent with your kids & get matching designs. Fair food and beverages will be sold in several tents, there will be a 4H petting zoo and many other activities to keep the whole family busy.

Who doesn’t love a good egg roll? This Friday is Kajsiab House annual Egg Roll Fundraiser. Their goal is to sell 15,000 made from scratch yummy egg roll to benefit their Mental Health Center. They’re only $1.50 for one or $15 for a dozen. I’ll be there in line with my hot mustard ready! Where else can you get something this good and plus it’s for a good cause.

UW Arboretum is in full bloom right now and it would be a shame if you missed it. Take some time this weekend to go to the Arboretum and get lost in all the flowering trees while you listen to the buzzing Bees. It only happens once a year and the time is now. You will be amazed at the all the varieties and may get a few ideas for your yard. It’s free and filled with fresh air.
Historical State Str Walking tour. This Saturday Madison Trust for Historical Preservation is doing their State Street: Everyone’s Street walking tour. Tour features the historic buildings of Madison’s famous downtown street, and the stories of the people who lived and worked between the Capitol and the University of Wisconsin campus. There are a few interesting stories you couldn’t tell you Mother.

If you need to get out of town? Hit the road and go to Bob Fest in Spring Green. The Spring Green General Store is hosting their annual Bob Dylan music fest in their back yard. Bring a chair, bug spray and your love for Dylan. This all day event will make your heart weep with joy. The store will be serving their outstanding organic, vegan, omnivore menu. So pick out your spot, grab some yummy food and a beer and let the music take you away.

On Monday May 26th the VFW Community Band will be performing patriotic music prior to the Capitol Memorial Day service.
Wisconsin State Capitol, Capitol Square Monday May 26 9:30 to 10:15.
Don’t forget about Monona Memorial Parade. This is the 59th year this parade has honored those who have and who are currently serving our country. The 2 vets that will be featured in the parade are Will Williams a Vietnam Veteran and Lincoln Grahlfs a WW11 Atomic Pacific Veteran. Get out there and show your support.
Parade starts at 10am sharp from 4400 Monona Dr south and west onto Owen Rd ending at the Village Lanes parking lot.

With all these options there is no way anyone needs to stay cooped up indoors. Get out in the fresh air, celebrate with your fellow Wisconsinite and enjoy what Dane Co has to offer.
