We Kept the Bedspread! "Use What You Have Staging"

(Maple Valley, WA)

Not every staging job has a hearty budget. However, much can be done with a very modest budget! As Interior Re-designers and Stagers, Barbi and I are used to using what the homeowner has to make a space more -- well, we like to say "designery" -- LOL! And although "designery" is certainly not a REAL word... it says what we want it to!

Before, the room does NOT look like a Master Bedroom... but believe-it-or-not-RIPLEY-style, we KEPT the BEDSPREAD!!!! (No we did not flip our lids... just the bedspread!)

BEFORE:

bedroom before

AFTER:

Bedroom After

Yes... it is the same bedspread... simply flipped!

Where did that standing lamp go that was in the "before" picture? You will find it moved here in an adjacent roomwe staged that I blogged about earlier!

Is your home on the market "designery?" Guess what... consumers have an eye for good design... they see it all the time, so bring an experienced staging professional into your home and flip, spin, or design your way into a great show!

I've turned embroidered towels over to the other side too.  You do the best with what you have sometimes!

Julianna;

    I have performed that trick numerous times.  In fact, I can remember walking through a home one time with a Realtor.  When we got to the master bedroom the first thing I did was walk to the foot of the bed and flip up the comforter.  The Realtor had a puzzled look upon her face and then I explained my move.  I told her that before I recommended the home seller purchase a new bedding set, I always check the underside to see if it is a simple plain color which they almost always are.  She thought I was a genius...hey it was her thought...I didn't argue with her! ( ;

Cheers!

Your welcome Kathy! Gina and Sharon - I've even flipped a valance to show the solid lining for an update. Patterns and prints can get "dated" so fast.

Julianna ~ Nice way to reuse!  It looks much better that way.

You are so right.  I too have used the same trick.  The homeowner is always appreciative when you use as much of their belongings to save THEM money.  Great Job!

You know so much of staging these days is bringing in all new stuff, that the challenge and satisfaction of the using things that the owners have is getting less and less what we do.  It happened to me and Brenda Kruse, BK Staging and Design one day that we didn't realize was a holiday and our storage was closed.  We had to just go and do it the good old fashioned way and it was beautiful.  We forget, that's what it was all about 5 years ago.  Just a little nostalgia here.   Good post.

It looks 10x's better, sometimes, it can be a real challenge using what you have.  But it looks like it worked for you!

Terrylynn - I love your story! The other day we did some one day decorating in Gig Harbor, which we we added a little bit more to, but we told the homeowner our favorite purchase was a lamp (that we found downstairs inthe basement) She almost fell for it... it was a funny joke, and it did look fabulous in her bedroom!

Fantastic idea! Will have to keep this in mind for future projects on a budget. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, Julianna!  You are so clever to have turned over the bedspread, and to have repositioned the bed on the wall instead of leaving it under the window.  I'm also happy you sent that flat, "stuffed" moose or whatever it is on the bed, packing!!!  It always amazes me when I see stuffed animals prominently displayed on the bed in the master bedroom.

Julianna, I think you have flipped (just kidding). Great idea, when ever I buy a bed set for my inventory I always make sure it is reversible. Thank for sharing and nice staging.

Julianna-that's the redesigner coming out in you-use what's there first!  You certainly achieved "Designery" in this room.  Great job!

Julianna I get so much out of staging occupied homes I have many of them recently and I love turning the house on it head and bringing out all of its potential. Sometimes low to no budget are the ones that come out the best! Kym

Julianna,

A little slight of hand is just what the doctor ordered.

I'll see you at your color class.
