So you've been retained by a wonderful young couple, whose husband just got out of the military. Great.......you set up the initial meeting to go over what it is they're looking for, they tell you he was stationed at Luke AFB in Arizona and would like to live in Avondale, AZ.  The house they want is 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and has a pool and is by a great school district.  We want to spend about $300,000 can you help us Alex?

What if a veteran can't find their DD-214Ok, lovely couple lets first start by getting you pre-qualified with a VA lender we use at Semper Find My Home.  They'll need your DD-214 and some other paperwork.  Alex, I lost my DD-214 what should I do?

Not to worry!  In the future keep multiple copies everywhere. It is one of the most important documents in a veterans records he/she will ever be required to keep.  This is proof of your status, whether you retired, separated or discharged. It also displays your discharge type which affects your VA benefits.

Fortunately, you can get a replacement copy from the National Personnel Records Center or NPRC. Enclose a completed form SF-180 which you can download here and mail it off with a short attached letter stating the reason for your request, name, rank, DOB and SSN, or you can do it online located here. Remember if you retired or discharged overseas, this process may take up to a year before it becomes a part of NPRC, so keep that in mind, you may need to contact your last command.

Play cards with some Veterans and we talked about this last week. Like everything there are some hoops but it is doable.
