This month's contest hosted by Melissa Zavala was one to put some thought to. In my eyes, she has achieved success with her knowledge on short sales, her newly published book and the fact she is called for national speaking engagements. As she says, if you ask a hundred people what success means to them, you will likely hear many versions.
Thinking of just one success principle that we could attribute our success, is a tough one. I believe there are several things combined that contribute to success. The most important is honesty and trust. You can do a multitude of transactions, but do they come back, or give you referrals? Without trust and honesty, most clients won't.
Another principle I live by is communication with my clients. Nothing worse than hearing, "I hired them, and then heard from them." I like to contact them before they have to call and ask. It's like I took that ESP class and PASSED. Even if there is no news, letting them know this, they know we are watching for answers (like in an offer).
Follow through is another attribute that is major! It has been said - if you say you will do something, you MUST do it! Your clients need to know their transaction is in good hands, and that nothing will fall through the cracks and crash their transaction. Would not want to be on the receiving end of passing the inspection objection deadline and not getting that notice submitted, or by not getting in an offer on a timely basis.
I also stay in touch with my past clients. This has been a gold mine in most years. Yes, years went by when homeowners were satisfied with staying put, but they had referrals of friends, work buddies or relatives. Being consistent here in the Rain gives me a great referral base with agents knowing (at least virtually) and feeling comfortable in referring their clients to me. I also have referred many out to the ActiveRain community.
Being successful in this industry means working hard, and not just 9-4 with weekends off. There are those agents with a team that can do this and be successful, but as an independent broker, I am there for my clients many hours each day, and love this business. Could not imagine doing anything else.
Not sure if I would call myself successful, but feel like a millionaire when I get a call from a client raving about my service!
