Senate Launches Senior Anti-Fraud Hotline for Seniors

In an effort to better protect seniors from falling victim to investment scams or internet thief, the Senate Aging Committee has launched an anti-fraud hotline where seniors or relatives can call and report if they suspect or feel they have fallen victim to a scheme.

In launching a hotline directly geared toward helping out the senior community, the Aging Committee is taking the necessary steps to make sure people or companies who scam seniors are caught and/or investigated. The lack of concern for the senior community is becoming a thing of the past as, day-by-day, new programs are launched in an effort to help seniors.

Most importantly, relatives can report suspected fraud as well. In the past, even if seniors have fallen victim to a scam, they've been too embarrased to report it, even to a family member. This way, if a relative feels something out of the norm has happened to their relative they can take action themselves and ask questions later.

The hotline staff will be a team of investigators from the Aging Committee who have experience in various scams and identity thief. Seniors will be able to call the hotline toll-free and, upon receiving complaints, investigators will examine the case and direct consumers to the proper authorities.

Bill Nelson, the chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, stated in an article published by Reverse Mortgage Daily:

"This new hotline will give seniors a resource to turn to for assistance if they think they've ever been victimized or have questions about fraudulent activities."

It will be an extra resource seniors will have on hand whenever they need to reach out for others and ask for help. This hotline will, hopefully, become a beacon of hope for seniors who may have fallen victim to fraudulent activities.

In addition, the committee has launched a newer, senior-friendly website with large print and a simpler layout in an effort to seniors' experience much more fruitful if the need should ever arise. While there is a lot of information online for seniors to find, they need to feel comfortable surfing the Internet and looking for said information. This website is definitely a step in the right direction.

The Committee’s anti-fraud hotline will be staffed weekdays from 9am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time. If you or a loved one has been the victim of fraudulent activity, or suspect you have, it's time to call toll-free at 1 (855) 303- 9470 or contact the Aging Committee through their website at http://www.aging.senate.gov/fraud-hotline.

Phil,

This is a great post and sadly it's happening to more seniors than it should I wish there was a way to stop it before it gets too far or good people fall victim. Enough is enough!

Thank you for this excellent post.

Patricia, I agree, it's sad that they have to resort to this but enough is enough. I'm glad there is now a way for seniors and their relatives to report those who seek to abuse them.

Sharon, it's sad but true. Hopefully this will make it harder for scammers who target seniors. At least now they'll know the consequences to their actions.
