Todays Google Home Page celebrates the 107th birthday of Rachel Carson, the famous marine biologist, author and conservationist.
Although Rachel Carson was born in Pennsylvania and spent her childhood there, most of her adult life was spent living in Silver Spring, Maryland. During her career, Rachel rented houses in the Highland View Neighborhood, in the Woodside Park Neighborhood and in the Woodmoor Neighborhood, all located in Silver Spring.
In 1957 Rachel Carson purchased a 1.11 Acre Lot in the Quaint Acres Neighborhood of Silver Spring and built her last home. This is the house where she wrote the book Silent Spring and the house where she died in 1964. Her former house located at 10701 Berwick Road, Silver Spring, Md is now a designated historic landmark.
