One of the best things about being a member of this community, no I take that back, the best thing, is the people. I've been here 5 years now and the love and friendship that oozes out of you all is something special.
Waking up today to learn of Maya Angelou's passing hit me hard. There are no words to describe her courage and strength. The struggles she overcame made her into the beautiful soul she was. I had the pleasure of hearing her speak twice many moons ago. Phenomenal Woman is one of my favorite poems, and to have heard her speak it live, with that buttery smooth voice of hers will forever be embedded in my mind.
I thought about etiquette and what is appropriate to write about and what is not; would families mind if I shared the news? I truly feel we are an extension of anyone's family and will go with my gut here to write on. The AR family needs to know so we can grieve and process the sadness.
On May 15th, our dear Margaret Rome lost her husband Lee. I cannot begin to imagine the heartache she feels in losing her spouse. Having spoken to Margaret, and reading all the lovely posts and comments I feel better knowing she has everyone's love and support coming her way. Margaret, you are something special and all of your love throughout the years is treasured.
The very same day, we lost one of our own. Clint McKie was young, too young to go. He had been with us in the 'Rain for four years and was admired by many. Clint was a great writer and wrote about his inspection experiences in details even the novice could comprehend. I will miss him greatly.
Just last night I heard of another member passing, William J. Archambault Jr. He was with us since the beginning, 2006, and an Ambassador because of his love and passion for this community. A poet for sure, just check out his Twas the Night Before Christmas piece. A kind man always willing to help out behind the scenes. He will be missed vastly.
Rest in peace beauties, we will be thinking of you.
