Facebook Reviews

Facebook keeps improving our Business Pages!  Have you noticed that some people have a "Review section" on their Business Page and some do not?

Facebook introduced the Star Review Feature recently for businesses with physical addresses. For those Web entrepreneurs who only have a website, this isn't an option at this time.  If your business has a P.O. Box address, the Star Review Feature is not available.

Soi first, How Do You Allow Ratings and Reviews on your Business Page? (Taken from Facebook Help Section)

To let people leave star ratings and reviews on your Page, you'll need to choose Local Business for your Page's category and add your business address to the Page.

You can choose your Page's category when you create a Page, or if you've already created a Page, you can change your Page's category.

To change your Page's category to Local Business:
  1. From the top of your Page, click Edit Page
  2. Select Update Page Info
  3. Click Category
  4. Select Local Businesses from the first dropdown menu, then select a more specific category (ex: Restaurant/Cafe) from the second dropdown menu
  5. Click Save Changes
To add your business address to your Page:
  1. At the top of your Page, click Edit Page
  2. Select Update Page Info
  3. Click Address and enter your business address
  4. Click to check the box next to Show map, check-ins and star ratings on the Page
  5. Click Save Changes

Keep in mind that if you later change your Page’s address, you won’t lose any existing ratings or reviews.

Now that you have the Facebook Star Ratings enabled here is another tidbit -

Communication

You cannot delete an unsavory review!  For some this may seem a bit scary - but let's discuss this.  People know that no one is perfect!  They know that things go wrong and that you cannot please every single person that you do business with.

With that said - You have a perfect situation here to respond to that review.  Let the public know that you are listening and that you acknowledge the dissatisfaction - then give them the resolution to the issue - this will also build trust - people like it that the owner is listening and does care about their business!  They want to do business with the person that goes out of their way to make a negative into a positive.

Let's talk about leaving a review: seems to be fairly easy, according to directions found in the Facebook Desk Help section :

  • Just visit the Facebook page of the business you want to review.
  • Scroll down to the review section on the right hand side of the timeline.
  • Fill in the number of stars (total of five) that reflect your experience with the business.
  • Fill in a written review as well in the space that asks “What do you think about this place?”
  • You can mark your review public or select the friends, acquaintances or other connections you want to be able to see it.
  • Then hit “Review” and you’re done.

Beware: You automatically enable the Facebook star reviews feature by adding your physical address on Facebook.

Facebook warns you that you cannot remove an unsavory review.  The only option is to remove the review function completely by taking your address off your page.

There has been and continues to be controversy over the reviews process! So only those with a Facebook account can write a review.

The new Facebook Starred Reviews Feature is another way to collect feedback and generate social interest.
