How to Get Better Search Engine Rankings with PinterestPinterest provides an awesome opportunity to maximize our search engine results (Google Juice).  Just like our blogs and websites, though, if we’re not optimizing them with appropriate keywords and descriptions, the search engines will never find us. We need to be making our social media and other marketing channels work for us.

Here’s some great tips for maximizing your Google Juice on Pinterest:

  • Plan Your Keyword Strategy – Research and use your keywords to match what your website, blog and social media profiles are about.
  • Optimize Your Username – Choose a username that is one of your keywords.  For instance, if you sell condos in San Francisco, your user name might be SanFranciscoCondos.  When someone puts San Francisco Condos in the search bar, your pins will show up in the search results.
  • Optimize Your Profile – Pinterest provides a section to tell the world about yourself.  This is a great place to use your keywords within your descriptive text.
  • Optimize Your Boards – Create topics for your boards; Things to do in (your town), Beautiful Homes in (your town), What I Love About (your town), etc.  Think of topics related to your website and blog.  Write a keyword-rich description about what your board is about, choose a category and make it public.  If appropriate, add a map.
  • Optimize Your Pins – When you add or upload a photo, graphic or video, you’re given a opportunity to describe what your pin is about.  Use relevant keywords within the text description.  Instead of just saying that your pin is a picture of a waterfall, enhance your description with keywords that describe the community in which the photo was taken as well as any other appropriate keywords.
  • Link it! – Every pin you add needs to be linked back to specific pages on your website, blog or landing pages.  If you’re using a URL to add the pin, it will automatically be added from the URL it was pulled from.  If, however, you manually upload a pin from your computer, you’ll need to go back into the edit portion of the pin and add the appropriate URL.
  • Verify Your Website – Pinterest will provide you with a verification file or meta tag you can upload to your website and blog.  By taking this extra step, your site will show up on profile and in search engine results.
  • Repin Related Pins – Go to the search box on Pinterest and type in your keywords.  This will lead you to other pins and boards that are related to your keywords.  Repin their pins.  Follow them and their followers, too.  This helps you build a following as well as gives your boards and pins more exposure and opportunity to be repinned.  Remember…everytime your pin is repinned, your link goes with it!

Keep in mind that every pin and board should be leading back to your website or blog.  Every board and pin should be optimized with your keywords and linked appropriately.  And, getting involved in sharing pins will give you a wider online reach.

Besides being a lot of fun, Pinterest is an easy way to maximize your “Google Juice”.
