I have noticed that some of you get tons of responses to Your Blogs, and it seems like I get a few, and then all of a sudden, it stops deader than a cat run over by a John Deere tractor. Someone pleaase let me in on your secret to keeping a blog going? I now have nine dead cats.

Does it have anything to do with the blog disappearing from the front of the listings? I need a cat with 9 lives. Can anyone advise me on what I may be doing wrong? or maybe what I'm not doing?

Kevin - I am new with AR.  I think going on other AR members' post and commenting is important. Also joining groups & associations may help.  Keep posting.  I think the more you work at it, the better you will get with all of the results.

Thankyou Scott for that little nugget! I don't know how to get people to "subscribe' as you say, but I guess I will learn.

I have found that using the terms "knocked up" and "virgin" in a thread title seem to get a lot of responses.

look

But seriously, you are not alone.

Also, make sure to reciprocate with people who post in your blogs.

Make comments in other people's blogs and the nice ones will come back and post in one of yours :-)

I like to use blogging to get more exposure online, and if I don't get any comments on my blogs like the ones with hyper local content then I really don't mind because most of the people that comment are from activerain, and they don't need to know about information about where I am from.

I'm still struggling with this.  I do get customers though.  I also have had a few featured posts and this seems to help the most.  But commenting on other people's blogs also helps a lot.  I will look at someones blog and check it out when they comment on mine.  There are a few people with huge followings here - but building that takes a looooong time.

I can see where building a following is important, and I'm sure it takes a lot of time. But in the mean time my cats need food, water, and their litter changed once in awhile.

I guess I'll just bury all the dead cats, and start commenting more, subscribing more, and try to find some more interesting subject matter.

I also really need to find out how to add more colorful text and pictures to liven things up a bit.

Kevin, one of the secrets is striking a chord with the readership - which you obviously have done with this post. I think I'n the 15th comment to this post. Sometimes you connect and sometimes - even though the material is good - you just don't connect.

You know, it is just amazing to me about what "connects" and what doesn't. I haven't had this many hits since my very first blog. Hey .. I'm not swinging a dead cat anymore, am I?

Hi Kevin, the real "secret" if you want to call it that is to build relationships. Make insightful comments on blogs that you enjoy, eventually people will notice and get to know you. You have to stand out from the crowd if you want attention.

Yep.. I was wondering the same thing for myself.  There is so much to read on "how to blog better" (which I try to do) but being new to AR is a bit of a challenge while trying to work also.

Hi Kevin,

Great question to put out there.  Unfortunately I haven't seen any heavy hitter comment yet.  I understand your frustration.  My first real post generated a HUGE response and even a feature, beginners luck for sure.  Since then it has died down a lot.  I try to read and comment on as many posts as possible, more is needed though, I think that is the key.  Probably the absolute best blog that I read, and even look forward to the next one each time is Charles Buell's.  I am learning from his posts in regards to content and presentation.  Absolutely the BEST in my opinion.

Keep plugging or rather typing away and we will push each other by way of points LOL

By the way, I called you last week and left a message, did you get it?

Dave

Kevin, There is no real answer. I have made posts that have gotten several comments and others that suck wind. Who knows?

Hi ya'll, thanks for all your posts and support.

Marti, you are obviously a heavy hitter in this arena, and apparently a great artist too, and I thank you for stopping by and taking time to post here. I am working on building reationships, and in time I know that will pay off.

I am learning the ropes here for sure. I'm just a little impatient sometimes I guess.

Dave, I did notice that your first blog was a huge success, and I'm not sure, but maybe the pictures you put in there made a difference? I haven.t really put any in mine yet.

And no I did not get any message from you, where did you leave it? Try emailing me and we can have a chat.

Oh yea- the points thing..  I don't really care much about the points, I just like blogging, and getting better at it, and learning, and offering what little I know to the community. Points are kinda fun to watch tho. Of course if your talking points, there are some people I know we will never catch. LOL

HI Kevin, great post and I followed it all the way down through the comments, I'm glad to hear you have one less dead cat.  I have been doing the same thing others are saying and one thing that I have noticed is, if you slack off and don't post for a few days, your readers kind of go away.  It's spring here and so hard for me to stay in the house and work.  I think pictures help and David has started using a video camera on his inspections so we take that and do blogs on.  I'm glad I found you, for a veteran in the business, I know you have a lot of wisdom and evey now and then I need some (Lots really) do you mind if I email you with questions from time to time?

Hi Bonnie,

Yes I did notice the same thing, you have to keep up on your posts, but sometimes it just doesn't seem to matter, it's still gonna be a dead cat. Subject matter is important too. Oh I hope you don't mind. I added you as an associate?

I'm thinking about using Mark's words in my next title too, or maybe "Free Money-Get it While It Lasts"

Maybe I could sell fur coats?  Just kidding!

Kevin, I don't mind at all, I added you also :-)  I think that's the way folks do it around here. That is the one thing I haven't quite figured out.  I also subscribed to your blog so I would lose it in the suffle.  I seem to do that and can't find my way back to one that I wanted to follow, that is until I found that subscribe button.  Then when you hit the blogs button at the top, the blogs that you're subscribed to shows up on the right and it has them listed by the last post or at least I think it is the last post.  Something like that, but that's how I find mine that I like to read.

PS got your email and will try to shoot some campaigns your way over the weekend.

I am finding out that getting better at blogging just takes more practice. Having time to do it this time of year gets tougher.
