When speaking to clients or other Realtors, there is this "thing" that some people do that makes me Crazy. While talking to a person and they start with the,"I know him very well's" and the "Oh yes they are very close friends of mine's" and all the name dropping rubbish. Why is that so many professionals feel the need to do this? It is because the lack the confidence in themselves so that they feel the need to be know by their "associations" rather than by their past performance and track record.
I would like to urge all to think about saying wonderful things about other people rather than simply declaring that they are your friend or how well you know them! The conversation should go this way. "We did lunch this afternoon with Bob and Allen." Your reply..."Oh that's great. Bob and Allen are so much fun, they are really great guys!"
Simply speaking highly of other people will almost always put you in a much better light than name dropping.
Cheers-
Mike
P.S. This concept was taught to me by a very wonderful person who is much smarter than I!
