At today's inspection I had a mental picture of a typical ActiveRain Addict,

half-smile on his face,

frantically typing away,

attempting to keep caught up with the comments to his most recent featured blog----ignoring the incessant screaming of the smoke alarm in the back ground---ignoring the tears in his eyes, when suddenly he remembers----OATMEAL!

Running through the smoke to the kitchen he finds the oatmeal pan in flames.

WHAT TO DO!

He has the presence of mind to NOT set the pan on the Formica counter-tops---(smart idea in a rental property).   But then he stops thinking and runs out of the apartment with the pan smoking like a locomotive (well the loco part is right anyway).  He sets the pan down outside the door, quickly closes the door and runs to turn all the vent fans on.

     Whoops........620

Hi Charlie--looks like it is time for someone to buy a planted pot.  They do have to disclose this though.

So Charlie, I have told you over and over again to have breakfast at home before the inspection. While we test the appliances you are getting too personal with the stove.

Monika, yup a good wide door mat:)  Don't let the stagers hear us though!

Don, so that was your place?

LeslieI am sure a pot would fit perfectly---or maybe a spittoon?

But Steve, this way I get to test the smoke detector/alarms as well----how can you beat that?

Yep, I've seen that before. I had a tenant put a hot iron down on the carpet in one of my apartments. Renters couple care less, it isn't their property.

The King has this to say:

Charlie, it is obvious to me that you will beg, borrow, steal and plead to hog the featured blogs. I think my sentiments are best summed up below, by clicking on my custom designed logo (designed and posted by you in case the other king's estate wishes to sue someone for infringement-- So long Charlie.)

Very funny -- but oh so true.  I have to use my whistling kettle so I don't forget to pour the water over my freshly ground coffee beans!

I have a timer that I set on my computer desk when I'm cooking.  Otherwise, I'd forget all the time.

This was funny.  Thanks.

Steve, thanks in advance for NOT dropping bykingsmile

Jimmy, thanks for visiting and laughing

Rebecca, so that was YOUR apartment?

Joan, I find coffee especially problematic, because you have to be awake enough to remember before you have had your coffee?

Matt, I used that in the story because I see it often enough to know it would be true for someone out there in AR Land

Rob, anyone that has cooked has some version of this story

Christina, are you laughing too?

Benjamin, do you think I have happened upon the secret to getting featured?

Dane & Jacke, Happy Laughing!

Lenn, great idea----but don't you need two hands to type with?  How do you set the timer?

Joseph, I think I like AR better than Oatmeal

Daniel, yup, I think we can all do this----except for the putting it down on the plastic carpet though:)

Lisa, half the time I DO forget to eat

Thank you all for your great responses----I had no idea there were so many oatmeal eaters out there!sunsmile

Too funny.  You hooked me with your clever title.   I hear they make oatmeal bars you don't have to cook!  Trust me, when I think to check AR when boiling noodles, I put on the loudest timer I've got because I'll forget!

You will have to fess up if asked. Your landlord can do a google search and find all the proof he needs for court! :>) I guess I have to wonder why you are renting......

Charlie,

At least this time you did not burn your buns. I remember what a commotion you made the day that happened. It was not something you could just sit back and suffer in silence..... being you and all.

Lisa, my wife knows when the toast is ready when the smoke alarm goes off:)

Ernie, thanks for stopping by

Sue, definitely burned dinner a few times myself

Ryan, a lot of people are voting for the plant idea

Natalie, AR should "market" themselves with timers----"Save your house, get your AR Timer Today!"

Joe, not my house, really:)

Wayne, great question----I have definitely exposed myself now----glad it wasn't my house:)

Shelby, thanks

Steve, hates it when I show pictures of his own rentals (by the way the "buns" are all healed:)

Bob & Carolin, very hot, and plastic carpets don't mix---for sure.  Lot of chemicals have the same effect too.

Russ, that is one pot mark that will never vacuum out:)

That is too funny. My cousin did something like that only a little worse. She was making grilled cheese and went to grab it off the stove. Well she dropped it. It scorched the vinyl, so she flipped it over onto the carpet. So she ended with a scorched circle and circle cut out in the carpet.

I agree with the potted plant. It looks like it would be the perfect fit.
