Top producing agents know they need to treat real estate like a business. They develop a business plan and implement their plan throughout the year. When you create a business plan, one of the most important things you will be doing is planning ways to generate leads.

Agents generally plan marketing and advertising campaigns. Some of their efforts are focused on building their image and name recognition. The most important aspect of marketing should be lead generation. Without enough prospects, you cannot and will not reach your financial goals.

Without a plan, even extraordinary people find it difficult to achieve ordinary results with predictability!

Here is a copy of the 2007 Business Plan HouseValues offered to its customers last year. (The 2008 version is for HV members only, sorry.)

This is a 17 page business plan template including:

  • Setting financial goals
  • Month to month income and expense sheet
  • Calculator for # of transactions needed to reach your goal
  • Calculator for # of prospects needed to reach your income goal
  • Marketing Planning Calendar
  • Weekly Tracker

I hope you find it helpful in achieving your professional and personal aspirations.

it is pretty basic, and almost every agency teaches you that business plan.  I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the plan that prevents agents from becoming successful.

Dennis- Thanks for pointing out that the plan is basic- I forgot to mention that. We've learned over the years that when it comes to starting out doing business plans, basic is better. Then it's easy for the agent to develop the habit of using a business plan and can expand it to meet individual needs. What kind of plan do you use?

What do you mean when you say 'getting used to a plan that prevents agents from becoming successful'? I'm sorry I don't understand what that means.  Thanks

Thank you very much.  I wanted more information on setting up a business plan. I plan to review it carefully and see if I can incorporate some of the ideas into my plan.

It's important to "stick to the basics" & find a way to grow, never leaving them behind

Dennis ....

Simplicity is beautiful. When you find yourself scatter brained jumping over new hurdles, looking behind you, you'll find the answer was right IN FRONT of you the entire time.  Basics are basics for a very powerful and fundamental reason. To often agents are out trying to reinvent the wheel without "fixing" or "learning" from their screw ups the quarter or year before.

Thank you for posting this. I have been looking for a more basic business plan that I can add my own tweaking too. This will come in handy!
