It is often funny when your world gets smaller how very little you can get along without.  Your world narrows and you are thrilled just to be able to take a bath, some good hand cream and if you're really lucky, a wonderful IV nurse.  You get by with so little and you don't even miss it.  Janis Joplin:  Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose....

Clutter Feng Shui New York City

Most of you already know I am the queen of clutter- LESSNESS.  Less is definitely more around here!  Or so I thought.  Then I can't imagine that in the few days that I've been home I have been cleaning out and up; things that could be sold are just being donated, things I thought I had a particular attachment to I find that I wouldn't miss at all.  Goodwill and several other charities are doing quite well these days.

Feng Shui Clutter by Feng Shui Long Island consultant

I've had Feng Shui attacks before and many of you have as well....but this is different.  This is a feeling of wanting to start completely new and fresh.  I wonder what the shift was that caused this and sure wish I had some AR friends closer who might actually WANT these things I have had for so long....and still don't know what to do with.  The old English China that was a gift to me over 30 years ago, more clothes then I could ever hope to wear, glasses, ornaments, things I thought I LOVED.

Perhaps it is a new process, a true starting over which I thought was done after the basement losses but may have been only the beginning.  But I have to say that I truly love the feeling, it's almost a renewal.  The timing is not lost on me either; this is almost close to my spring cleaning time into which I incorporate Feng Shui (more on that soon-you're doing it anyway :)

So here's to truly "lightening up" clearing out and giving away.....and there is a curbside "Alert" every day here until further notice!  (I wonder why I always wonder WHAT the neighbors think :)  But truly if you're looking for something and you believe I might have it, email me---it's yours!

Hi Carol...Looks like Spring is in the Air at your House, when you're done how about hopping on a plane and De-cluttering my Garage and Office, the rest is pretty good!

Cheers, have fun shopping Girl!

Carol, good to read you blog again. I love the feeling of clearing. Every year I buy less and miss less of what I give away. I ask myself, how is this serving me. If it is not serving me, it goes out. I love to give things to those who need them. And it is time soon to do so again, for me it is an ongoing process. I don't know how things just accumulate!

Oh Carole, do I ever understand.  I think that the my brother's death was the final straw that pushed me totally over the edge.  I am even thinking about changing my name.  It is part of that whole renewal thing.  Oh, I really do understand.  I wish you could come here and do a consult before I put things back together.  Good luck and remember that you deserve to be free.

Carole...a new beginning...how exciting! How fun to start over, I do love new beginnings

Carole,

It sounds like you're making room for new energy and enjoying it immensely. I remember a number of times in my life doing a similar thing and lately have been thinking quite a bit about how we attach ourselves so much to 'things' and yet all that really matters is our personal being.

'We're spiritual beings trying to have a human experience', not the other way around...it's so much lighter traveling as a spiritual being; no stuff to cart around!

How exciting Carole! Something terrific is in the wind - change is at work - consciousness is shifting. Difficult times (I don't mean yours, particularly) create fodder for change with those willing to take it up.

"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose...." - some of my happiest times have been at the sea in very simple & spare cabin lodgings...

hmm, something new is afoot!

You watched me last Saturday cleaning out closets didn't you?

Carole - It is so good to read your words and sense the freedom that you are feeling from giving away and letting go of extra things.  Great to see you are doing well.

There is something about spring. Days are longer, warmer, and brighter. Birds sing at dawn, and plants emerge and bud. That's when people clean and reorganize.

Hi Carole,

You must be felling better if you are spring cleaning....glad to hear it!!

Spring cleaning I love it!! I do my major cleaning in the spring then a light one in the fall. Every spring I look at what I haven't used in the past year and get rid of it. I either send it to goodwill or shelters for battered women. I really enjoy giving to the shelters because I know that those women can really use it, sometimes they have left with only the clothes on their backs.

Carole--What a wonderful idea! We used to live in a neighborhood where "free" stuff left out on the corner would disappear to new owners in minutes. It is a wonderful way to start fresh!

03/27/2008 10:05 AM by Teri Eckholm, RealtorĀ® Anoka County MN (Keller Williams Premier Realty)

I love starting fresh...partly because I don't like to save anything that I don't need, but part comes from moving many  times and downsizing as well.  You learn what is really important to you and what isn't!

I love the idea of lightening up and making room for new things to flow in!  I have been a clutter queen for many years -- and I am learning ways to "let go"!  It is liberating and renewing.  I find it easiest when I give things away - rather than throw them out.  My parents lived through the depression and I got a lot of "don't throw that out, we may need it some day."  Boy does it feel good to let go of those old tapes!

I'm so glad that you are feeling better.  You must be, to tackle spring cleaning!!  I have avoided it so far, but since I am hosting a wedding shower next month, I guess I will have to roll up my sleeves and get to it soon.  I know that I will feel sooooo much better when it's done!

03/27/2008 01:36 PM by Lisa Heindel, New Orleans West Bank Real Estate (Latter & Blum Inc. Realtors)

Stephanie, This is so much more then Spring Cleaning (I'm an old hand at that :).  This is truly letting go and I love it!

Sally, This is a total clearing out, I almost WISH it were just Spring Cleaning :)  I did so much during the New Year I'm surprised I just don't want all this stuff :)

Fred, Why not, although I'm not in the cleaning mode I'm in the releasing mode....everything goes :)  You sure you want me to help out :)?

Katerina, Thank you...it's good to be back.  My son was home for a bit today watching me and couldn't believe what he had to carry out :)

Gayle, I lost my brother as well and inherited many of his things--of which I eventually ended up keeping very few things---I do know how difficult it is.  This is something that I haven't had before and I love it, it is truly very freeing.

Joan, That's what I'm thinking and feeling....completely new and I love it!  Every single day things are flying out and it feels so good :)

Jo, It sure is.  I was never the type to let things weigh me down but so many things that I thought I absolutely loved I really don't....and don't miss them a bit.  It's a terrific feeling.

Deborah, You are absolutely right, something new---and something different and wonderful.  It will be very interesting to see what materializes from all this.

Kris, I was right there....and saw those outfits you kept that you really haven't worn in almost two years :)

Marzena, I am thankful how well I am actually feeling after that....tired but then again, who isn't??

Rosario, It is still cold here....and I want so much to be outside because it feels SO good.  I am hoping we get some warm sunshine days very soon!

Trace, There are so many things I am getting rid of but I can't find any of the organizations to pick them up....and am not up to driving furniture, dishes, career clothes all over the place.  I wish they made it easier, there are people that would really love and use these things.

Teri, There is a Yahoo site called "Buy, Sell, Give it Away" where you can put "Curb alerts" of what you have....things have been going fast!

Diane, It is funny that the things I thought were important just aren't.....things I really thought I loved don't have the meaning for me now....and I take that as a good sign.

Joan, I would not have been able to say I have clutter, I always loved these things--until now.  It's funny but I just feel differently about things that I thought I loved.....

Lisa, It's not cleaning, it's donating....everything is going.  My son wonders who has come home :)

Hi Carol...sure why not lets throw out some stuff! I' need a little push, I think it a great feeling to let go of stuff that has been around for years and not getting used.

Cheers, have a great weekend!

I need to do this in a BIG WAY, I am starting... it does feel good when you don't have to worry about it or take care of it.

Hi Carole- Ya know once we have a major crisis in our life, things change.  When I was desperately trying to save my home I started selling things....and some of them were "treasures" or things I wanted.  But then I looked at it like do I want a roof over my head or stuff :)  The roof won, and I had the same feeling as you have expressed here....liberating.
