Happy 55th Wedding Anniversary Mom and Dad!
My parents married on June 5, 1959. Earl Riemenschneider and Jacqueline Grueser. Of course mom and dad are both long gone, but I remember the day (not the actual day as I did not come along for another 13 months). Remembering the day gives me a chance to reflect.
I miss them both but in different ways. My dad died 15 years ago, which seems to soon for me, but at least it was in the course of things and some what expected. I miss hanging out with him and just talking. Football was more fun when my dad was alive to watch it with. And my dad loved football; there was no game too small or unimportant that he could not watch it. He loved the Oklahoma Sooners, Oakland Raiders, and the Cardinals, no matter what city they were in.
I miss my mom in different ways. She died suddenly when I was 5. I remember her somewhat and she was a good mother, well thought of by all. When I think about her I suppose in some ways I want her approval. A part of me is still the little boy left behind, that wants to show her my accomplishments and get her approval.
I wish my children could have known their grandparents. My oldest was two and the 2nd son was just a baby when my dad died. My boys have no grandparents and not having a grandparent is a sad thing.
I suppose that by remembering a small part of them is still alive and here for me and my kids.
