The end of the school year means a break in the family's routine. Often, it also means stress to parents of young teens, who are too young to work but too old for many local camps. Volunteering locally or out of state may be the answer. Many nonprofit organization & groups need help with programs year-round and the exposure teens get to other people & needs are a valuable life lesson. For teens that are looking for a more meaningful summer experience and/or need community service hours, the city of Pembroke Pines offers many volunteer opportunities for students residing within its borders. Teens that are at least 15 years old & have completed ninth grade by September 1, 2014, can volunteer in any of the four city camps offered between June 9-August 15, 2014: Special Population Camp (for disabled residents between 6-22 years of age), Art Camp, Drama Camp & Tennis/Golf Camp.
Pembroke Pines will also offer its popular Saturday Summer Film Festival for 10 weeks (from June 14 to August 16, 2014); free family films will be shown at 10am each Saturday at the Susan Katz Theatre at 17189 Sheridan St., Pembroke Pines, Fl.
