If you want to start growing your own food but fear the trial and error of developing a green thumb, then you might be interested in Edyn, a smart solar-powered system that gets rid of gardening guesswork. Suited to small gardens or even small-scale organic farms, the device monitors weather and soil conditions in order to give you up-to-the-minute advice about how to keep your plants healthy. The system allows users to keep track of light levels, humidity, temperature, soil moisture, and fertility, allowing you to focus the fun part of tending your garden!

Edyn can help you decide what to grow in your garden. Instead of seeing what works over a period of months, the cross-references the information it collects with plant, soil science and weather databases to recommend which plants will thrive. It can even suggest the best time to plant, and what other plants will grow harmoniously in your garden. Once your plants and vegetables are in the ground, the device will also send push notifications to your phone advising the best course of action.

To make sure you don’t waste too much water caring for your garden, there is the Edyn Water Valve, a separate component that controls your existing water system to provide plants with only as much water as they need. While there is an option to use the accompanying app to manually control the Water Valve, relying on the automatic feature will lower utility bills and ensure that your garden continues to flourish.

The company is currently running a Kickstarter, which is well on its way to a goal of $100,000. If you want to support the campaign, you can get your hands on a Garden Sensor for $99. For $159, you can get an Edyn Garden Sensor and a Water Valve.
