Photoshop Express

There are excellent online photo editors... but none of them are Photoshop- the king daddy of image editors.

That is, until now. Adobe has created Photoshop Express, an online editor that allows the casual web user the ability to touch up photos and share them with the world at large. They also provide you two gigabytes of storage space.

As you can see from the screenshot, a great number of features are built in:

  • Auto Correct
  • Exposure Adjustments
  • Red Eye Removal
  • Touchup Tools
  • Saturation Slider
  • Balance, Hightlights, Fill Light
  • Sharpen and Soft Focus (Barbara Walters approved)
  • Special Effects: Hues, Pop Color, Black & White, Tint, Sketch, Distort

Their editor isn't just for photo fixing and storage, they've also tied the features into social networks such as Facebook. You can also interact with Picasa or Photobucket.

The program just hit beta today... that means you can try it out for free. At some point Adobe intends to add other features at a price. These "for pay" features may include expanded printing services, larger storage capacity, as well as support for additional media and file types.

Try it now by going here: www.photoshop.com/express

Well, it's about time!  Just about every computer is shipped with software that performs these common tasks now.  Photoshop truly is the "king daddy" of image editing.  It's what the fanciest graphic designers on earth use.

I'm just glad there are some simple tools to make pictures look a little better. =)

And when it comes to taking virtual tour shots...leave it to the pros.  ;-)

Tony- I'm as happy as can be. As a person who, gulp, paid Photoshop prices, to buy the original, I am glad that I can finally try it out in the online form. It's not as full featured but it's a very nicely done subset. I'm expecting it to be a hit.

Katie- It's a little different than the full version... but it does work fine with a subset of features. It also plays nice with other social web-based networks.

Lorrie- sharing is what it's all about. :-)

UPDATE... THIS JUST IN: Some people have had concern about this online version's terms of service. Adobe's original terms (which are now unavailable on the site) would allow them to use your images without granting royalties. Persons have balked at this and now Adobe is re-writing their terms to take this away. For a full accounting of this matter read this post: Adobe Revises EULA's

Justin- I suspect your not alone... many "full versioners" are going to be all over the web edition.

Alan- Isn't it funny that people in our industry seem to be heavy users of this kind of program?
