Lights OUT This Saturday 8-9 P.M. for Earth Hour!

Can you turn off your lights this Saturday for just one hour for the good of our planet?

Hey, I just signed up on the new Earth Hour website for 2008 and I thought you might like to take a look and possibly sign up too.

Earth Hour is on  March 29, 2008 at 8pm, and it looks like it's going to be really big. So far, as well as Sydney, there'll also be Partner cities:

Concerned and earth friendly citizans in all of these cities are all participating by turning off their lights for an hour in the name of fighting global warming.

Sign up for Earth Hour with me by visiting http://www.earthhour.org/sign-up and join the movement.

So far, per the web site, 237554 have already signed up!  Will you please join us?

That will be easy for me as I get home around 9pm.  I will have to keep the lights out till 10 pm.

I find most people are in the dark already, does that mean they are extra earth friendly?

Thanks for sharing.  The last lights out, I think, was October 20th....the night of my daughter's Sweet 16 Party.  We had our backyard decked out with those cute little lights...the last thing I was going to do was turn them off and have a Lights Out Hour at the Sweet 16 Party!  Maybe I'll turn my lights off for two hours this Saturday, then I'll be even.  Cheers, Harley

Debra...

I am also laughing at Todd's remark. He is RIGHT :)

Anyway..

This turning out the lights at 8 P.M. works for me. There's plenty of other things I can be doing.

A nice evening bicycle ride sounds good. I will ring my bike bell when I see a house with the lights on :)

TLW...ROAR!

Lights out? I know I'd be getting a good nights sleep with that! Great idea.

Actually, the temperatures on the earth have actually COOLED over the past 10 years.  Al Gore is selling a bill of goods.  The cause of global warming is that big yellow globe of pure energy we call the sun. It is a star and like all stars expands and contracts....when it expands..we get warmer.  As it contracts...we get cooler.  This all much ado about nothing and I don't understand why it is posted in a Buffini area.

Oh well...sorry for ranting.  I got a D on my "Global Warming is a Hoax" lecture presentation in my Environmental Politics class back in 1987.

Cindy...thanks, every little bit helps:-)

Derek...was that an exerpt from your lecture presentation?   <G>    Seriously, thanks for reading my post and commenting...there is always room for all points of view!

Hi Debra,
Oops!  I missed it, was out of town...is there going to be another anytime soon?  I'll check out the website.

HI Cynthia...I think it is an annual event but who's to stop you from having your own little private earth hour? :-)  Go for it!

Was this presented in the media at all?  I don't watch a lot of TV so if it was I am sure I missed it.  I think this is a wonderful idea I just wish I had known about it sooner.  We can still do our best for the environment.  Walk to the store, ride our bikes, take mass transit, whenever posssible, use CFL's instead of compact flourescens (see my blog on CFL's and proper recycling of them).  There is so much we can do.  I love what you said to Cynthia about having your own little private earth hour.  This is a great idea...can we do it everyday for an hour.  I never thought about turning off everything for an hour.

Jennifer...yes, I think it was.  We can all defintely still do our part, as small as it may seem, on our own on an ongoing basis.  Or we can do a little every day, like you said.  It all helps:-)
