STAGE 3 WATER RESTRICTIONS
Well....it's Texas, and it's summer....so of course it's hot and dry!
Again this year, we begin the summer with lake levels extremely low for this time of year. Lavon Lake, (which is the primary water supply for the North Texas Municipal Water District, which serves most of Collin County), was 11.47 feet below the normal conservation level as of June 5, 2014. That's more than 4 feet lower than it was this time last year. The lake now stands at only 51.1% capacity compared to 67%. During the summer months in Texas, reservoirs can drop as much as 10 feet in elevation due to evaporation and increased usage. As the population continues to grow (especially with the corporate relocations such as State Farm and Toyota) so does the demand on the water supply.
The North Texas Municipal Water District (as well as our cities served by NTMWD) are urging customers to conserve water use; if hot weather and low rainfall trends continue, fines, higher water prices and even more severe restrictions may be necessary.
