I Must Be Doing Something Right, You Can Too!
Very few in my industry are doing this, so we are lucky. It makes it easier for us. I showed this to a handyman a few years ago in December when he was super slow and he was literally sitting in his office (which is usually what he does anyway as he fields the calls for his guys. I said, "what do you have to lose...you're just sitting here anyway. do it in between calls. He did and come January 7th, he was so thrilled. He couldn't beleive it.
I Must Be Doing Something Right
I often wonder about the time and effort that is put into being found by customers needing contractor services in the Sacramento area. Like many others, the regular posting and updating and learning new ideas can take a big chunk of the day - for some it is every day. Is it all worth the effort?
I do regularly get calls from people who have found me while searching for a dry rot contractor, or deck building, or siding replacement. Apparently my name comes up in many different areas of the searches, and that’s a good thing. It didn’t start right away but it has gradually gotten greater with time.
I have noticed that it does come and go like the tides. Multiple calls one day and none the next sort of thing is the pattern. I don’t know why that is exactly but many there is a reason. But lately the tide has gotten stronger, more calls on a regular basis with heavy calls on days like today. So I must be doing something right.
I don’t use any other form of advertising, so my friends and fellow contractors can’t quite figure out why I’m so busy while they are struggling to find new work. I’ve tried to explain what it is that I’m doing and why I do it, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. They will have a long lists of excuses, many of which I used to believe myself.
I used the some excuses: I don’t have the time, I don’t know what to blog about, no one cares what I have to say, and nobody else is doing this. I have to just chuckle and say, “Give it a try”. It is working for me, I think it can work for you too.
