Some Constructive Criticism For My Favorite Email Scammer

By
Real Estate Agent with United Real Estate SA542701000

Email Scams

I receive one these emails every few months. The name changes but little else. I've never responded to them.

To me, they appear to be a very crude first step in an obvious scam. I keep getting them, so either these people are unable to come up with new copy or  there are agents out there who have been sucked in.

 Dear

Please allow me use this opportunity to introduce myself I am Richard Phillips an investor based in UK. Having seen your profile I am Interested to do business with you, partnership investment in the area of Real Estate Development in your country under your jurisdiction, can you be able to handle it? I will give you more details once I hear from you. I look forward to your favorable response on this matter.

Best Regards

Mr. Richard Phillips.

Dear Mr. Phillips,

A little constructive criticism:

1. It should be Dear Sir/Madam/Ms. Laswick no one calls me just Dear except my husband when he's being sarcastic.

2. Use a better quality language translator. There are several available that won't leave out words like "the", capitalize Interested or change the syntax of your scam request.

3. Change the scam copy from time to time, changing only your name and address is sort of a "tell".

I look forward to your favorable response on this matter.

Best Regards,

Nancy Laswick

Ha ha, you really made me laugh on this one, especially your first comment. I get this stuff all the time, but it's usually not so detailed in terms of the request. Does anyone REALLY believe this junk? And who are these people?

Too funny, Nancy. Did he send a corrected copy to you? 8-) These folks are so transparent that they need some good coaching to get their scam across.

Dont pass up this great opportunity Nancy, send him an exclusive buyers agreement and the government paperwork and when or IF he sends this back along with a substantial retainer schedule an appointment to look at investment properties.

We all get the scam emails. There was a time when I was naive enough to ask myself, “Gee. Why did he write to me when there are so many other Realtors out there who could help him?” But I never answered any of them. Some things are just so “too good to be true” that you know they are scams.

I just got one last week, I believe they are sent out by the millions ,  it's purely a numbers game .   They know there is always some foolish soul who will respond

LOL, it is sad that I'm sure some do respond.  The crazy thing is that someone in London would have way better language and grammar.  It almost would have made more sense if they chose a country where English is not the native language.  - Debbie

Very funny Nancy. I would never have thought to correct them as I kind of like looking for all the flaws in their scam letters.

This is the reason I don't let my 86yr old father have an e-mail account, he'd be broke by now as some of these scam letters are real good.

For a while these stopped, or at least I received them rarely. Now they have reared their ugly head again more frequently. I actually wrote a similar response once and it bounced back as a bad email address! There's a smart scammer!

Nancy, haven't seen one of these in quite a while. You would think someone from the UK would know how to spell and use better grammar. Did you get a response?

Believe it, or not, the bad grammar and syntax is done on purpose.  I read a study done on this and in phising they send these out in the millions.  IF a person bites, and oddly enough they do, then they know they have a sucker on the line.  Most people have the same reaction as you do.  But those that don't . . . are reeled in and the scammers knows they have an all day sucker on the line.

Obviously this is a very polite older gentleman, who was taught the proper manner of using the salutation, "dear."  I am surprised you don't recognize that and click to see what other polite things are in store.

Oh, and I am a zillionaire many times over, sometimes more than once in a day!  Why so many people are leaving me money is beyond me, but it's so good to know you are appreciated and thought so highly of.
