We are fortunate to live in the Red Feather Lakes, Livermore Colorado area. People who are looking for a new home surrounded by nature, don’t need to look very far.
This gorgeous Sunday morning, I woke up and as usual, let the dog out. She walked to the edge of the deck and stopped dead in her tracks- high alert- something was different in the yard! I went to the window to see what she was staring at so intently and there was a doe with her brand new twins!
I watched the new mother as she licked them and nudged them up onto their wobbly little legs. One did fairly well walking and bouncing around. The other little one was tired and just wanted to lay in the grass.
Mom came over to the fence to have “a talk” with the dog. They didn’t say a word, but I could tell that she was putting Josie on notice that she would not tolerate any interference from a dog. And Josie, sat quietly and watched the two little ones like she was in complete awe, just as I was.
I resisted the paparazzi urge to open the door and get the photo of the day. It would have been a great one. But I just couldn’t see putting that stress on the doe who was already in hyper-protective mode. The photo above is from Office.com clipart.
Finally, the doe decided it was safe enough to turn her back on the dog who was still sitting quietly behind the fence. Slowly she walked over the ridge with her cute little white speckled fawns following close behind.
What a great way to start the day! I love living here.
What a wonderful gift to see this doe and her new twins this morning.
Happy Father’s Day, everyone.
