I have given you lots of tips on what to plant….companion planting, planting for butterflies, hummingbirds and, my dear friends, the birds this year.
But, I forgot to let you know that fresh herbs whether on the windowsill, the garden bed or in your container gardens add a lot of zest to your food. Barbecues need some fresh corn on the cob with a little basil, pasley and oregano. Stay tuned for that recipe!
And, who doesn’t love to have fresh dill on their deviled eggs?
We live with our herbs year around, but you might just try tucking a few in a hanging basket to get you started. Flat leaf parsley works well for that as does basil. Throw a couple of chives in there for some height.
Rosemary is beautiful in a bed or as a container plant. Buy an old or new oak barrel and stick a bush in….and then sit back and smell. Ahhh!
Herbs are so easy to grow. Here is an article to get you started…http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/taste/261237441.html
Then here is that recipe for scrumptious corn on the cob.
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
4 teaspoons chopped parsley
4 teaspoons chopped basil
4 teaspoons chopped oregano
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon lemon zest
Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Transfer to a piece of waxed paper or parchment paper and roll into a log and refrigerate until firm.
Slice pieces and serve with the corn.
Yum…
Best, Ron
