The Rice Military area was named "Rice" after the family who owned it, including the founder of the Rice Institute, William Marsh Rice. The Rice Institute is now known as Rice University. The term "Military" is in reference to the Rice Military's neighborhood's border community, Camp Logan. Camp Logan was formerly a WWI U.S. Army training camp. Its close proximity to downtown Houston, as well as nearby Memorial and River Oaks neighborhoods, make Rice Military an attractive option for home buyers. What's the Neighborhood Like?
Eighty years ago, Rice Military was a rural community with neighborhood stores and blue collar bungalows on tree-lined streets. Now, the neighborhood landscape has changed and homes have been replaced with much larger homes. With space at full capacity and is considered premium, developers began constructing townhomes and multiple dwellings. Home prices vary ranging from $400K to the $1M+ range.
