I am where I am today because my Broker had a vision!
When I started in real estate in the early 1990’s I felt I was in the right place at the right time. I obtained my license and thrived in an environment of seasoned professionals. I learned from the best. Everyone was willing to help and guide me my first 2-3 years in the business. I vowed I’d remember to give back and I make it a point to mentor newer agents.
I trusted my broker. I listened and adopted the philosophy of always doing the right thing. I learned that giving my customers top flight service was not going to be the exception but the norm. My word was my bond.
I met Geno at our office when he retired and moved back to Austin and tried to sell his folks house without a real estate license….that’s a whole other story. We ended up marrying and joined forces. Our business grew and flourished. We began noticing our Broker was insistent on conjuring up new tactics of extracting additional fees from agents which drove them out of the office. We were sorry to see many of these seasoned agents.
We planned our first anniversary trip to London. We felt the atmosphere in our office had changed. More agents left so we talked to our Broker to find out what was going on. We explained we were ordering all our stationary cards etc. for the year and we were assured everything was working smoothly and there would always be agents that felt the grass was greener.
In our sales meeting a week before our trip our Broker proclaimed he’d had a “vision.” He wanted to write and was closing the office!! We were dumfounded!! We couldn’t even digest what he was saying! The news circulated like wild fire and we had Brokers calling us for interviews. We were angry, frustrated and felt betrayed. Looking back on it now we realize it was the best thing to ever happen. It didn’t take us long to decide on the Broker’s office we knew would be the perfect fit. Five months later our old Broker opened up a menu driven Real Estate Company. It lasted 4 months. I’m a firm believer that what goes around comes aroundJ.
Life is good, I love our office and I far exceeded where I was in the old firm. Our Broker spends all their time and resources on helping their clients (that would be us) on becoming the most successful agents we can be. Their training is geared to keep us educated on the most effective way to conduct real estate in our global economy. Obtaining and maintaining market share is a never ending proposition. When the focus us on what you can do for your clients instead of what they can do for you it’s amazing the phenomenal success you can achieve!
