We do so much each day that is related to our work of selling real estate. Is this work related?

1. Going to dinner with friends and clients?

2. Getting hair nails done or massage?

3. Shopping for business clothes?

4. Getting the car washed?

5. Having parties?

6. Attending parties?

7. Going to charity events?

8. Going to community events?

9. Volunteering?

10. Participating in clubs?

11. Going to church and school events?

12. Serving on the HOA board?

All of these and more bring visibility to us and ultimately bring us business. This and more is a part of our branding.

I'll bet you could safely say that you discuss real estate at every one of the above events.  It's the type of business that we always talk about - even when we don't want to because others will ask us about the market.  So yes, it's all business in my book.

Lori, yes these are all work related because people always ask what we do at events etc. And then the conversation always turns to work, the market, their house etc. Enjoy these tax deductible expenses, just document what you talked about.

Would they pass the IRS test LOL. I went to a seminar out of state one time, got a manicure and hair cut wrote it off as an expense and was told it wasn't. LOL

On one hand my car has never been kept so clean as after becoming an agent.  On the other hand, still not getting my nails done!
