Juneteenth 2014 Celebrations in Austin
We are smack-dab in the middle of Juneteenth 2014 celebrations in Austin. The Little Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant was yesterday, with a special Juneteenth program at the Doris Miller Auditorium afterwards. But you haven't missed everything. There is still plenty of fun events scheduled for Saturday.
Part of Saturday's festivities for the Juneteenth 2014 celebrations in Austin include the 2K Freedom Run/Walk at Comal St and MLK Blvd bright and early on Saturday morning. If you haven't already registered for the Run/Walk, feel free to come on down and cheer on the participants. The Juneteenth Historical Parade takes place at 10am (directly following the start of the Run/Walk). There will be partying going on at Rosewood Park (2300 Rosewood Ave) from 12pm to 8pm. All of Austin is welcome to join in on the fun.
Juneteenth commemorates the date back in 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger came to Galveston TX to announce the end of slavery in the US. It has become an annual tradition here in Texas to celebrate this historical occasion with family-friendly activities, BBQ and, of course, live music. You won't want to miss the Juneteenth 2014 celebrations in Austin this Saturday, June 21st. It's going to be one heck of a great time!
