A Dog's Place Is In Your Home . . . But Not When Your Home Is On The Market

Many people say that dog is man's best friend.  And that's probably true.  But not when your home in Nanaimo is for sale.

Here are a few tips on what to do with your dog when you're trying to sell your house.

Selling your home with petsFirst, realize that not everyone likes animals.  Some people just don't care for the four-legged critters, others have pet allergies, while some may be pet lovers - just not of your pet.  Regardless, as long as these people become buyers, that's all that counts.  So out-of-sight, out-of-mind is the first rule of the day when it comes to keeping your dog out of view.

If you're having an open house, or if you're having a lot of showings of your house when it first comes on the market, consider boarding your dog with a friend, neighbor or professional kennel.  You'll be able to keep your home much tidier and you won't have to be concerned with whether or not the prospective buyers are pet lovers.

Taking your dog for a long walk is another way to keep it out of sight if you've got one showing scheduled or maybe a couple of showings back-to-back.  Your dog will no doubt appreciate the extra walks and your potential buyers won't be distracted by your pet.

Often times the Realtor showing your home will be very familiar with her clients.  Your listing agent may be able to discover whether or not the buyers are dog lovers, and even what kind of dogs they like.  If they just so happen to like the type of dog you have, then by all means make the introduction . . . then go for your walk and let the buyer's agent go to work!

Excellent post to remind sellers again that pets should NOT be in homes when they are shown.
