Three Reasons To Buy Natural Lump Charcoal

A friend forwarded an article about whether or not one should spend $15 on natural lump charcoal

The answer was YES.  There were three reasons:

1.  It is cleaner.  Natural lump charcoal costs more than charcoal briquettes, but you are paying for better quality smoke.  Standard briquettes contain binding agents like sodium nitrate, which get released into the air.  Lump charcoal has no additives.  It is made with natural hardwood from tree limbs and lumber and sawmill scraps.

2.  It burns better.   Natural lump charcoal is as close to cooking over firewood as you are going to get without a wood burning grill.  It burns hotter than briquettes, so your grill needs less time to heat up.  Added bonus?  Cleanup is easier since charcoal produces less ash than briquettes.

3.  It amps up flavor.   The biggest reason lump charcoal is the go to for grill lovers is that it lends a delicious smokiness without the chemical taste that can sneak into food cooked over briquettes.

I go the natural way and start with Real Wood, it takes a few minutes more for this to burn down to coals but at least you know that you are not infusing your food with unknown chemicals and it it Much Less Expensive.  And scraps of wood are available in nearly every yard and woodlot, just cut up those discarded branches instead of carting them off to the landfill.

Not being a Griller, I had no idea what you were talking about. Makes sense after reading it. Used to cook over wood when in Boy Scouts, so will probably get into grilling.....someday.

Kristin, I have used this before, and it is a little tougher to get going because I don't like to add lighter fluid to it.  Does burn nice and hot, though as stated!

Kristin, little know fact that this is Santa's choice as well.  He uses his left over charcoal from the summer to put in the stockings of those kids who have been naughty since coal may become scarce, thanks to the EPA.

Good for you Kristin. So happy you are getting the word out about lump coal charcoal. So much smarter for our air - and many folks get it hot in those chimney devices - no chemical starters needed,
