You write for a living.  Whether you realize that fact or not, each and every listing contract, purchase agreement, addendum, etc. is an example of how well you communicate.

Sometimes, it can mean the difference between being sued by a client or not.

Your skills in the writing arena are important.  And, many realtors, brokers, mortgage loan officers understand the legal implications of what they write.

But, does that transfer to the posts you write….here or elsewhere?

Take care, because a simple sentence can expose you to horrific consequences.

We all get lessons on procuring buyers and sellers, but how many are coached on writing contracts that are perfect.

Many years ago, in another office, I had a friend/associate who asked the broker manager to set up different scenarios for him to write purchase agreements and listing and buyer representation agreements so that he could write them correctly each time.

At the time, I thought “How smart is he?”, but in a good way.  He was making sure that he knew that he didn’t know what complexities could come up and so he wanted to be prepared.

Do you pay attention to your blog posts?  They are advertisements for you.

You want the general public to think that you have a command of the English language.

Gwen Banta writes an occasional series about bloopers that are real estate-related.  You don’t want to be in that group.

Nor, do you want potential clients to check out your website, your listings, or your blog post to find glaring mistakes.

You want to be the penultimate professional.  And, that means using spell check, the thesaurus and maybe even send it off to a proofreader before you post anything, if you need that type of help.

Don’t be proud, but do be careful.

Have fun, but write professionally.  You deserve it, and so do your clients!
