Some ordinances just don't make sense.

Recently the lovely municipals in the little known city of Walworth, Wisconsin decided that they need to crack down on the car congestion in this town of a bustling 2,000 residents. They changed the rules on visitors who need to park their cars, but nary a sign or public notice to be found....this is where my little tale begins.

My boyfriend lives in an apartment complex in Walworth. One day last month after visiting, I come out to my car in the morning to find a friendly little yellow tag with a violation for parking in the apartment complex parking lot. O.K.,no signs, but I get it. It's for residents and even though I'd parked there many times before, it was time for them to let me no I had overstayed the welcome. Warning# 1.

So,I parked my car on the street. No signs stating I couldn't,so I did. The next day, I come out to my car to find a ticket. Apparently you cannot park your car between the hours of 4-6 a.m. on the street. So I paid the $50 and asked the clerk at the police station, "So where should I park",her reply,"Good question,I don't know".

Seemed like the Village of Walworth had decided that I need to build a garage in the sky.

Well, I chocked it up as a loss and found a workaround. I now call the police station and leave a voice mail on their machine with my car, make, model and location. Seems to be serving their needs for now.

My loss was only $50, but dirty little secrets in real estate cost much more.

  • Undisclosed or covered up water leaks, mold or foundation seepage.
  • Fences that have been built outside of the homeowner's lot line and encroaching on their neighbor's property.
  • Sneaky rennovations and home upgrades that are not up to code and don't have proper permits.

Do the right thing and disclose.

It's a funny thing about secrets, dirty or not, they have a way of catching up to you.

Ouch!  That wasn't very nice.  Seems you could challenge it in court but you may be facing the good ole boys!

I see one of the advantages for buyers & sellers working with Realtors is that everything must be disclosed. I'm not sure how it works in transactions where no professional Realtor is involved, but that is one of our obligations to our clients, disclosure. Hey Rebecca, being that there were no signs, they couldn't cut you a break?

HHHmm, nice ride. how do you get it to hover like that? I'm surprised they could ticket you in the apartment parking lot. We were not able to get the police to do that in Louisville, kentucky when I tried because it was private property. (I use to own a large apartment complex there).

Maybe it is a very religious town and they were not happy with you sleeping at your boyfriends? LOL

Rebecca!

I love the photo!

Years back, I worked downtown and a parking spot was !!!!!!!!!!!!! (300) a year. I was a starving photojournalist.

It was cheaper for me to park my truck in the truck loading zone and pay the 5.00 tickets, becasue I didn't get one very day.

Rebecca- Yep, I think you should just use some of that airspace for your car.....:)  Seriously you have a good point,,,,not disclosing can cost a whole lot more money than that $50.

'Becca, It seems your boyfriend isn't doing his part. Why isn't your car listed as "belonging" to his apartment?

But as for real estate disclosures, disclose everything or it WILL  come back to bite you.

Sara and Leslie- Speeding tickets but not parking tickets.:-)  I guess being a resort community, this would take away some real revenue opportunity.

Nathan-Thanks for coming by this blog:-)

Tara- I know, but sometimes, you just gotta let the insanity go and laugh.

Eugene- Disclosure, full disclosure is key.  And even though there weren't any signs, doesn't matter, unfortunately.

William- No doubt, I used to live in Illinois, and I can tell you parking is a real issue in Chicago.

Sean and Pilar- That's funny, maybe so,but they do have bars and music here,so it's not so much a town like in the movie Footloose, though it is small town living.

Jim- I would love to have a 'Vette that could fly, then I wouldn't care about the parking at all:-)

Steve- I believe that, was just in Milwaukee for the car show last month. Parking was still high, and the ticketers were out in full force.

Kathy- It's not just a form, it's all legal and binding.  Why it seems to be so popular to cheat the system I don't understand.

Bill- Just put the sticker on my car yesterday,so we are all set. Thank you.

Rosario-I love all the photos available these days,I need to delve more into taking my own and uploading. It is my next project.  That and video.

Patrice- Thank you, it's fun to expand my blogging muscles.
