What Event Turned My Life's Direction Towards
'Real Estate'
My mom had been in the hospital (11 years ago) and since th Master Bedroom in our home was downstairs and other bedrooms upstairs, we had to give my mom our master bedroom for a week until she was able to go home with part-time care.
So that got us thinking about selling our home and buying a new one with a downstairs bedroom and bath suite for her. We thought maybe she would come and stay with us permanently someday and should be ready for the event.
I had driven around in our neighborhood and saw a nice home for sale. I called the agent on the sign and she said it was PENDING but had a home coming on the market soon. She wanted to meet and see our home and two days later our home was on the market and offers started coming in. We ended up buying the home she mentioned in our first telephone conversation.
During our transactions, we became good friends and knew I was tired of my career of 28 years so she suggested I think about retiring and selling real estate instead. What a great idea so I studied for the test after Christmas and until my test on Feb 19th!
Took my state exam in San Diego. Received the news of my passing and went in the next day and told my boss I was putting in my retirement. This was a major decision and I kept thinking in the back of my head "Am I making a mistake?"
Started selling real estate in April 2004 and it has been a wonderful new career for the past 10 years+. I am so grateful that this agent, my friend, who suggested I become a Realtor. Though it was different I had many years of experience dealing with people and my first job had been selling with Sears, Roebuck Co.
Making that sign call changed my life and the lives of my family. My mom and daughter were so happy that I now had flexible hours and could take off for sporting events and doctor appointments. And my husband was happy as he had been getting off work and going to events without me so now I could make them all.
Sometimes you have to take chances and not look back which is what I did. Go ahead and take the plunge. I have never regretted my decision and love my 2nd Career.
