We have all heard the phrase
“truth is stranger than fiction”
well, that is precisely what happened here on the Space Coast this week!.
For the last three weeks, there have been numerous sightings of a shark in the lake at Gleason Park in Indian Harbour Beach. Bull sharks have the ability to survive in freshwater habitats, which is probably why this animal survived so long in Gleason Lake. The lake is not attached in any way to either the Indian River Lagoon or the Atlantic ocean! so exactly how he got into the lake is a mystery. But the probability is that someone put him there.
The juvenile bull shark was nicknamed "Sushi" and evaded all attempts to capture it until this morning.
After Sushi was captured by Melbourne Beach fisherman Steven Henson he was released into the Indian River Lagoon. Later, Indian Harbour Beach City Manager Mark Ryan said,
"We are a shark-free park. Sushi is free!"
To say the least, Sushi has been a real draw to Gleason Park! Good luck in the lagoon Sushi!
