A Feel Good Friday Story
Feel good stories are just that... They make you feel good. And last night, while I was watching the NBA draft, the NBA did something that gave me one of those ahhhhhh moments.
Isaiah Austin, from Baylor, had been set to see his dreams of playing in the NBA fulfilled. All if his hard work, hours of practice would be rewarded. He was expected to be drafted.
However, just days before the draft, this young man found out he has Marfan Syndrome. And unfortunately it will prevent him from playing his beloved sport.
Like most young athletes, he dreamed of the day when he would walk across the stage and don the cap of his new team.
And so between the 15th and 16th picks of the draft, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called Isaiah Austin’s name and asked him to come up on stage where he was promptly drafted by the NBA.
No, he cannot play professional basketball but they made it possible for him to see part of his dream come true.
What a nice change to hear of a large organization doing something they didn’t have to do.
And even more so, the young man has, at least for all outward appearances, chosen to put a positive spin on his newly discovered situation. He has started a campaign to call awareness to Marfan Syndrome. He hopes to stay involved with basketball in some capacity.
I love this kind of feel good story. Now, if you’re entering the weekend with the PPM’s (poor pitiful me), I hope this gave you a swift kick in the behind! Be grateful for what you have.. whatever it may be.
