Dog Days Are Here…...

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Referral Group Incorporated

It's hot, and it is humid and the days of summer are really here. Some people refer to these days as dog days which I take to mean really killer hot. That said as a dog person I get really worried about the fur ones who are often abused and overheated in this weather and their owners don't even get it. First and foremost never ever leave an animal or a child for that matter, in a car for even a couple of minutes. Inside the temperatures are much higher and animals don't sweat so they can succumb to the heat quickly and that's it: they die.

If you walk your dog and see them pant or they stop, get them to the Vet immediately. Dogs suffer heat stroke very quickly and the worse thing you can do is take them home and ice them down. Tepid water and take them immediately to get help. They need to be hydrated and you can't or shouldn't make them drink. The best thing to do is not put your dog in jeopardy in the first place. If you are really hot, your dog is in trouble too.

Finally make sure there is always fresh cool, not cold, water in a shady spot for your pet if they are outside with you. Lest your dog not suffer in this very very hot days.

The hounds of Springer Lodge went out this AM when it was 72 and have not gone out since...they are asleep on the sofa waiting for me to turn on NASCAR qualifying...their water bowl is full and I had them cut to their "summer cut" last month....they are happy!  happy! happy!

Good evening friends and thank you for stopping by and leaving your comments and offering your support: I really appreciate it.

Hello Wallace. I wouldn't ever worry about your pups. They are loved, well cared for and cherished, and they are lucky. Were that all pups had such a life. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Pat. I can't stop thinking about the dogs of summer and all of those that have no one and live on the streets alone or in shelters. Many don't survive: most actually and it makes me very very sad. Thank you for your encouragement.

Hello Li. You are very kind and I appreciate that and you. I agree the word continues to be re-enforced. Perhaps you will re-blog this next week. Thank you.

I think you know our pups live inside with us.  We of course both take them to walk (after it cools down in the evening and there is shade and early in the morning before it's very hot and we let them romp and play for shorter periods and only in the mornings and after sunset in our fence. (always have water for them too).  There is a dog that lives outside near my office and I have gone by there a couple of times to make sure he has water.  I wish people didn't leaves dogs outside in this heat.

Hi Sheila, The information contained in your post is so important, but many people do not realize the important in using tepid water in treating an animal with possible heat stroke. My dogs always like being outside, except for when the temperature hits about 78, then they look for AC vents in the house. You've given me a good idea, I'm going to include this information in my monthly newsletter.
