Do you Work in the Field, or Do You Work in Your Yard?

I can't say no one has success by working like they use to, mostly before my time in Real Estate, however I do believe you can do MORE by using social media.  Planting yourself in all the right places and watering until your crops pop up.  It's the only way I know and it works for me...

Do You Work in the Field, or do you Work in Your Yard?

There was a farmer I used to know. He was out-standing in his field. That sentence could be construed differently. He either was a great farmer, or he was confused, as to what to do with the field. We as Real Estate Agents, are faced with the same dilemma.

Agent #1 has been working in his yard, which consists of his friends and relatives, along with some past Buyers and Sellers, along the way. He hung around the office, answering phone calls and talking to walk-ins. He put his listings in the local magazines or newspapers. It was his yard and he kept it manicured and healthy.

Then there was Agent #2, who decided to go out and plant crops, that would reproduce, bringing forth new crops. He started farming with a new and improved seed. The name of the seed was social media, complete with the nutrients of Active Rain, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+ .

While Agent #1 was content with mowing his yard, Agent #2 decided to plow new ground in the field.

Agent #1's yard started drying up. Nobody was walking through the door.  He ran out of relatives and his past buyers and sellers were not producing leads or referrals.

Agent #2 continued to receive more leads and referrals and now watches his business grow and prosper.

Are you still working in your yard,

or did you decide to get a tractor and start cultivating the fields?
